Hi everyone! 🌟
Leeloo is still looking for her new home, and I’d love your help sharing her story.

Leeloo is a bright, sensitive, and playful girl who loves fetch, sniff walks, and cozy couch time. I’ve been working closely with her for the past 6 months, and she is truly thriving with structure, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training.

Her current family loves her deeply, but after thoughtful consideration, we’ve determined that living with other dogs is very stressful for her. Leeloo will do best as the only dog in the home. That said, she can comfortably interact with other dogs out in the world—parallel walks, passing on leash, and outdoor adventures all go great with the right support.

Once Leeloo trusts you, she is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and eager to be someone’s true companion. She would thrive with a person who wants a devoted partner to move through life with.

For more information, please take a look a her petfinder profile here: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/leeloo-in-maine-courtesy-cross-post-78452557/me/south-portland/almost-home-rescue-of-maine-me65/

If you or someone you know is looking for this kind of companionship, please reach out or share this post to help Leeloo find her match. ❤️🐾

This week’s day training theme: Socialization! 🐾✨

George did a fantastic job learning how to stay calm around all kinds of novel sights and sounds. With the heat wave in full swing, we shifted much of our training indoors—perfect for noise desensitization! 🎧🌩️🎆 From thunderstorm and fireworks playlists to practicing around the vacuum, George handled it like a pro.

Today, we wrapped up the week with a park outing where he calmly observed kids running and playing—no barking, no chasing, just curious and chill. 🌳👀

Go George! 🐾

Friendly PSA

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder to please respect local leash laws and ordinances when walking your dog. We’re so lucky to live in such a dog-friendly state, with plenty of recreation areas that allow off-leash play under voice control. Believe it or not, there a more of them than spaces with clear leash laws!

Leash-required areas exist for a reason. When those rules are ignored, it takes away a limited safe space for dogs & owners who need them most—like reactive dogs who rely on these areas for stress-free walks. Respecting leash laws helps create a safer and more inclusive community for all dogs and their humans.

I researched and compiled a list of recreation spaces with very clear leash laws for owners with reactive or fearful dogs to safely enjoy. Unfortunately, many of those spaces, we STILL encounter dog’s off leash. It’s a disheartening experience, especially when working with owners to build their confidence and provide safe enrichment opportunities for their dogs—only to have those moments disrupted.

A morning of reflection: 2023 was a big year and I have a lot to be thankful for. I have had the privilege of be able to work with 97 dogs and their families this year so far. I have logged over 26 hours of continued education hours, assisted with a catalog photoshoot, traveled to so many different beautiful areas to work and have made some great connections and relationships over the year through work. It was a year of growth and new experiences.

I wanted to take a moment to thank my clients for trusting me with the well being of their companions - it’s a responsibility that I do not take lightly and I am grateful.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank Nancy with training, for all of your guidance and support with my advanced cases. Along with Diana thank you both for your mentorship and support!

Big Thanks to Dr. Norris & Dr. Johnson for continually trusting me with your clients and all of the other veterinary practices that have sent a referral my way

Thank you to Almost Home Rescue of New England for allowing me to help dogs building the confidence needed to be successful in their new adoptive homes

Wishing you all peace, love and relaxation for the rest of 2023. Enjoy a walk in the woods with your pup and give them a treat for me 🐾🦴💛

Be well,
Grace

One of my favorite enrichment games to introduce to clients! A game of find the treasure: a fun way to provide appropriate outlet for your dogs exploratory and olfactory senses both indoors & outdoors. We advanced the game by incorporating a little impulse control, asking Barney to stay while treats were dropped in various locations and then releasing him to begin the game.
