What do you do with the silence after you say amen?
After Amen is an invitation to live inside that question. Not a tidy answer. An honest reckoning with what prayer actually costs, what it forms in us, and what it asks of the ordinary moments that follow.
If you've been waiting to read it, there's no better time. Available now everywhere books are sold.
After Amen started as scribbles in my prayer journal. If you've had a chance to read it, or if you joined us on tour -- which poem has stayed with you? I'd love to hear in the comments below.

Writing, preaching, and pastoring has taken me so many places I never imagined it would—across the country and the world, to arenas, prisons, and everything in between. But, I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that the greatest gift in all of it is the people you get to know deepest and run alongside. is one in a small handful of friends I’ve had the joy of sharing more than ministry with but life—family and friendship, laughter and tears, and so, so many memories moving and comical alike. I can’t wait to make another memory together in a beautiful evening of poetry and prayer, scripture and song in the city of angels on April 23. Come on out and make one with us, LA
Case in point: This photo represents two memories made. First, two friends acting ridiculous in the Oregon wilderness. Second, me posting said ridiculous moment for all the world to see.

An update on the After Amen Tour.
Seattle and New York: we're not going to make it to you. A combination of factors have simply prevented us from making it to all of our tour stops. No one is more disappointed than me, and I hope to make my way to your beautiful cities sometime soon. If you bought a ticket in Seattle or New York, a full refund is already on its way.
The tour is still happening, and I'd love for you to join us if you're able to make it to one of the remaining stops: Four cities, four nights, and we're going to give everything we have -- including bringing our NYC giveaway winners to join us out for another stop on the tour.
Come find us:
Vancouver – April 21
Los Angeles – April 23
Nashville – April 24
Dallas – April 27
Poetry read aloud, live music, unhurried worship, all leading to personal space for prayer and encounter. It's going to be a beautiful night and I want to experience it with you. I hope you'll be there.

What love sounds like when it learns to let go.
from "Blessing for a Son Leaving the Nest" by Tyler Staton.
After Amen: 50 Days of Poetry and Prayer. Coming April 21.

My mind is busy with tasks, preferences, and plans.
With things left undone and remembered,
things to do discovered
and so many things wanted—all of them inessential.
What I can’t seem to remember is the one thing I most want,
most need to recall:
Who I am, why I live, and, therefore what,
no better yet, who really matters today.
In this time of prayer, will you collect the pieces of me floating
in the overflowing, spilled mess that is my life?
Remind me who I want to become, what of this day will grow weightier as I grow old,
and what will dissolve into weightlessness.
Fill me with love enough to share,
words enough to pray,
things to want that aren’t things, and are, therefore,
actually worth wanting.
Whisper to me again, Holy Spirit,
not in new words but old ones forgotten.
And satisfy my soul on the bread
that this world knows not.
Amen.

Amos, Dec 2025
I've been dreaming up something really special for the After Amen book release, and it's not your typical book tour. I'm hitting six cities alongside for a liturgical worship gathering that takes you inside the heart of this book.
We're calling it After Amen: An Evening of Poetry & Prayer. Beauty, prayer, poetry, and song are woven through the seven signs of John's gospel. I'd love to see you there.
