Merrill, President and Chief Executive Officer of Merrill Transport Co. started the business at the age of 16 years and with a used truck worth $150.00 in 1929 and began an Express business and general trucking service between Cumberland Ctr and Portland, Me, out of which he built a diversified trucking company grossing millions of dollars annually and had over 500 pieces of equipment. he eventually operated terminals in Maine, NH, and Vermont.
I see that this site gets many hits. We need stories from those of you who worked there. Pictures also. This site is only as good as those of us who set down the stories. I have no more to tell, so stay and contribute to what was and is no more. Thanks.!

At this time, I'd like to send Condolences to the Bell family on the passing of Gerald. I worked with him in the mid to late 70's on Forest Ave. in Portland, Me. He drove for Merrill Transport for approximately 40 years. He was also a Army veteran of the Korean War. Thank you for your service Gerald, and may you rest in peace.

Mr. Ronaldo J. Ouellette, retired from Merrill Transport in 1982. He hauled fuel and oil products to lumber camps in North western Maine. Rest in Peace.
