Project update: Thanks to lead man Kyle Nasman's expertise (and his youthful agility and size 😏) the last of the boiler's lower tubes have now been removed! After some additional prep work we'll be ready to install two rows of brand new tubes.

Tugboat Tuesday!
Willamette Tug's TT AMERICA assists the tanker SS KEYSTONER into berth at Willbridge. --Jan 20, 1987
Everything in this vibrant scene of maritime activity is now a memory: the tanker was scrapped in 1994, the tug was sold and moved to the east coast, and Riedel's yard and dredge equipment across the river is long gone.

Our tube replacement project continues as we first have to pull the tubes.

Tugboat Tuesday: 41 years ago... where in the world is this?
Would you believe... the tug RANGER was actually on the Clackamas River! It was sent up there to bring down the dredge Amazon from the gravel pit known as as Rich Valley- or what is now called Willamette Cove.

In honor of Grant McOmie and his passing, a look back when he visited the Steamer on July 18, 2015.

The project to replace two rows of the PORTLAND's boiler tubes has begun as demonstrated by engineers Kyle Nasman and Lloyd Harshberger. Our goal is to have the boat ready to steam for this summer's long-awaited cruising season.
OMM will gladly accept your donations to help cover the costs of this expensive work!

Sad to report that we lost a great one today...
Long-time OMM Board member and Steamer PORTLAND shipmate Ron Youngman passed away early this morning at age 92.
Ron contributions, his energy, inspiration, and professionalism were invaluable to the Steamer's restorations and operation.
No details on a service at this time but we will have some sort of memorial for him later this year. In the meantime, here's a brief look back at his years of leadership on the Steamer.

Saturday provided some fine weather for taking bunkers on the Steamer. After our boiler repairs are completed we'll have ample fuel for cruising this summer!

How does one pack 112, 2-inch boiler tubes from the seawall down to the Steamer's main deck? With these guys, one tube at a time...

Willamette Wednesday!
A typical morning scene at Willamette Tug's moorage... the tug RANGER heads up river to tend the gravel plant at SW Bond St. while the the TT AMERICA, MARINER, and CHIEF assist the steam tanker BT SAN DIEGO (with Shaver's PORTLAND on the stern) to Swan Island. That's Riedel's dredge Lofgren on the right.
