🔨🪶The Hammer & The Feather is an immersive five screen video installation and surround sound live audio experience. Greg King and Christian Frederickson will be flying in from Los Angeles and Boston for our closing event! You will be able to meet the creators behind this stunning and inspiring work.
The Hammer and the Feather, an immersive audio and visual installation, takes its name from the experiment performed on Earth's moon by U.S. astronaut David Scott, which proved Galileo's assertion that gravity exerts an equal force on all objects. Developed at MIT by technical instructor Christian Frederickson and visual artist and filmmaker Greg King, The Hammer, and the Feather uses the architecture of the liturgical mass as a structural and conceptual framework to create a contemplative and spiritual environment where audience participants can connect with large questions and pursue their own inquiries into the nature of existence. Bridging humanistic and scientific inquiry, the piece uses gravity as a poetic and conceptual departure point for musical, Visual, and sonic material.

🌀🌊Otolithia is an experimental, ambient, and improvisational duo featuring Tatiana Muzica and Josh Faber-Hammond. Their music is a unique combination of Japanese koto, multiple flutes, ethereal vocals, and electronics. The name is a fusion of the words ‘otolith’, referring to a calcium carbonate structure in the inner ear of vertebrates used to maintain equilibrium, and ‘lithia’, or lithium-containing water, which has been shown to reduce depression and stabilize moods for those who drink it regularly. They hope their music can help the listener feel more balanced as well.

🌙✨Luneau is an experimental dreamscape collaboration between Tom Asselin and Rachel Rusenko. The French words “Lune” and “Eau” translate to moon and water. They derive inspiration from the ethereal and mystical quality of the moon, with its shifting cyclical effects on bodies of water, including our human bodies. They are enamored by outer space and contemplating the unknown. They often play improvised, welcoming the Mystery to channel through each moment. Stay tuned for their first album!
👾🤖Proqxis
The array of calculated permutations contained within proqxis' audible compositions constitute a neo-minimalist tapestry of glitch-groove and avant-drones that seep into the substrates of the interlocutor's mind and posterior.

Choosing to close Earth Space has been difficult, but necessary.
For 3+ years we have facilitated community connection, in a mindful way, during a time of isolation and restricted access to in-person gatherings. We have given people a container to grow their own businesses, that was the most accessible and affordable option in town. We have given artists, musicians, writers, makers, teachers, and dreamers a place to showcase their voice, talents, wares, and unique offerings.
We would not have done it any differently! We celebrate incubating and growing Portland culture, while choosing a non capitalistic approach to business, centering humanity over financials.
With that being said, multiple factors converged in the ultimate decision to close our doors. We could not keep up with unsustainable and continued rent increases, which nearly doubled in our time here. To continue operating the space, we would have had to completely change our business model and approach, which would have fallen out of alignment with our values.
We truly cherish each moment spent here, and would love to celebrate all that Earth Space has been with you! Each bridge built, each acquaintance turned friend has made this labor of love immeasurably worth it.
We hope to see you soon!
