We are working to stabilize a situation we just became aware of with 20-30 dogs being kept by a well intended but uneducated and under resourced “rescuer” in Guatemala. Please read the details in the photos as to why we are not pursuing alternative interventions and remember the resources available there. This is a delicate balance as we work to maintain communication and access with the people involved who can easily and quickly bar us from the property which would escalate the situation drastically and may not end up in the best interest of the dogs. May all of our dogs forever stay unrecognizable from who they were when we first met them 🥺🫶🏼

Today is my 34th birthday!
It also marks three years since I started the work of SARA in Central America. I’m proud to say that each year we’ve grown, and we’re excited to continue this momentum into 2025!
To celebrate my 34th birthday I am asking for donations—$3, $4, $34, or any amount that you feel called to give.

I’m happy to announce the launch of two endowment funds—one for ongoing rescue efforts and one for sterilization and vaccination campaigns. These two funds are named after two very special dogs we’ve lost over the past few years.
FRANKIE was our first official adoption. After a miraculous recovery from her condition on the streets, she was lovingly adopted by a family in the US. Sadly, complications from a tick-borne illness took her from her family just 9 months after she arrived.
To honor her memory and continue her legacy, we’ve created our ongoing rescue fund.
SCOOBY was a beloved street dog who was cared for by the community. He was sterilized, vaccinated, and received ongoing flea and tick prevention along with food. His life was taken in an act of violence, a harsh reality faced by many street dogs.
To honor his memory and continue his legacy, we’ve created our sterilization and vaccination fund.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of street dogs in Central America—one life at a time!
