The Chair Project

Originally from Cleveland, Jeffrey "Chairman" Couch has resided in Portland, Oregon since 1999. While Chairman has focused heavily on his more aggressive spazrock bands (such as his former sextet Drats!!! and his current band Nasalrod), he also likes to demonstrate a quieter side with the soulful punk introspection of his solo act The Chair Project. TCP allows Chairman to strip things down with virtuosic, crazed vocals and solo bass guitar only. Song topics range from slowly enjoying alone time in a Portland neighborhood ("Hollywood") to hitting rock bottom in life ("Straight Commission"). Chairman's vocal stylings go from tender falsetto to belting it out, often within the course of a single song. This unique mixture of naked electric bass lines with unpredictable crooning has made its way to many beloved Portland venues such as Turn Turn Turn and Mississippi Studios. The Chair Project's full length debut album entitled 'Random Conversation' is currently available on Bandcamp, Spotify and more. Most recently, Chair has been in the recording studio with legendary producer Larry Crane.

Excited to announce that these brilliant folks (Night Brunch!) will be backing me up on some vintage Chair Project material this coming Monday (May 19th) at LaurelThirst Public House here in PDX! To have musicians of this caliber (their vocal harmonies are insane!) play my tunes with me is truly a dream come true. I'll be joining them on a couple of their songs as well. This pic was taken a couple of days ago at the Cinema 21 Theatre. I love this legendary movie (which was shot here in Portland) so much. Speaking of PDX, I'll be playing with two local icons at Turn Turn Turn next Saturday, Feb 15th: Sean Croghan (with his band The Mistons, who'll be releasing a 7"!), & Larry Yes!
