Reduced fire severity offers near-term buffer to climate-driven declines in conifer resilience across the western United States | Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 03/11/2023

Excited to see this massive synthesis effort out. Kudos to Kim, Marcos, Kerry, Phil, and our own former student Sebastian!

Reduced fire severity offers near-term buffer to climate-driven declines in conifer resilience across the western United States | Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Increasing fire severity and warmer, drier postfire conditions are making forests in the western United States (West) vulnerable to ecological tran...

Post-Fire Landscapes: What can they tell us? Day 1 02/11/2023

Lab members attended the Oregon Post-Fire Research and Monitoring Symposium in Corvallis, OR earlier this week to present new research on delayed tree mortality and connect with fellow researchers and managers. Check out several presentations from GEC lab members in this YouTube video starting at 6:45:00.

Extreme Winds Alter Influence of Fuels and Topography on Megafire Burn Severity in Seasonal Temperate Rainforests under Record Fuel Aridity 03/25/2022

Kudos to Cody Evers, Sebastian Busby, and Max Nielsen-Pincus for our piece on high severity of the 2020 Wildfires in Oregon (https://www.mdpi.com/2571-6255/5/2/41/htm).

Extreme Winds Alter Influence of Fuels and Topography on Megafire Burn Severity in Seasonal Temperate Rainforests under Record Fuel Aridity Nearly 0.8 million hectares of land were burned in the North American Pacific Northwest (PNW) over two weeks under record-breaking fuel aridity and winds during the extraordinary 2020 fire season, representing a rare example of megafires in forests west of the Cascade Mountains. We quantified the re...

Multi-centennial phase-locking between reproduction of a South American conifer and large-scale drivers of climate - Nature Plants This study establishes the effect of ENSO cycles modulated by SAM in South America on a native conifer over multiple centuries and the reproductive cycle of individual plants on a regional scale in line with climate events.
