Help Us Renew Beit Yosef – A House of Blessing for Portland
Dear Friends,
Last week, several hours were volunteered to clean, reorganize, and rededicate Beit Yosef. Spending time restoring our synagogue reminded us just how special this house of God truly is, and how much potential it has to uplift not only our Jewish community but the city of Portland as a whole. We are reaching out to you—Jewish and non-Jewish friends alike—because what we are building at Beit Yosef matters for everyone who cares about community, tradition, and the common good. We urgently need your support to keep our doors open and continue this vital work.
Beit Yosef is in a time of renewal. While we welcome those seeking meaning and belonging, we are mindful of rising antisemitism and take security seriously. One of our core values is the ethos of Rabbi Yoḥanan, who stood in respect before every elder—regardless of background—honoring the dignity and experience of all people. At the same time, we remain distinctly Jewish, following the Sephardic tradition, and are strong supporters of Israel’s right to exist and defend herself.
Portland is a beautiful city, and from our hilltop in Gabriel Park, we are blessed with amazing sunsets and inspiring views that remind us of the city’s promise. Beit Yosef is positioned not to “keep Portland weird,” but to help keep Portland safe, family-oriented, business-friendly, and fun—a place where every person can flourish. Our mission is to be a source of blessing, rooted in Torah and tradition, for all who share these values.
Beit Yosef is run entirely by dedicated volunteers, with no paid staff or salaries. Every dollar you give goes directly to covering our rent and utilities, which total $1,600 each month. Your generosity directly supports those working to keep the Sephardic flame alive in Portland and ensures this special place remains open for all who seek it.
Your support will help us restore and maintain Beit Yosef, expand our programs, and create a secure, welcoming space for all who share our vision. Every donation—large or small—will make a real difference in this renewal. If you are moved to help, please visit https://beityosef.org/donate to contribute directly.
Thank you for considering this invitation to partner with us. Together, we can ensure that Beit Yosef remains a house of blessing, peace, and inspiration for Portland and beyond.
