Day One! I have officially taken over ownership of the shop today. All kinds of bittersweet—thrilled to be starting this new adventure; but I’d be lying if I didn’t confess some disequilibrium finding myself no longer employed by Windows Booksellers for the first time in 17 years.

On to the work though … this wall I’m hiding behind here will be gone next week if all goes to plan. My goal is to open up the interior for more visible browsing and to make the space more amenable to readings and other events. Then painting the exterior, sorting and shelving a few thousand books in storage … and hopefully back open with a party at the end of the month!

Will be posting progress updates here. In the mean time, catch us at the Rose City Book & Paper Fair June 17-18.

Phew! What a weekend.

Thankful for all the dear friends and neighbors who came out to sing this shop to sleep.

Seriously, if you can walk into Mitch’s shop and not buy a book, you either don’t have a pulse or you don’t like books. Maybe both! It is the best shop anywhere for fiction, and a lot of other things too.

If you haven’t heard, we have a bit of a metamorphosis ahead of us. Our longtime bookseller Adam McInturf will be taking over ownership June 1. After a few weeks in a cocoon of remodeling and restocking, we will be re-emerging as Arches Bookhouse at the end of June.

Arches Bookhouse!

Our longtime bookseller, Adam McInturf, will be taking over ownership June 1st and relaunching as Arches Bookhouse. May 31st will be the final day of our existence as “Windows Booksellers Portland.” We are so excited for this transition.

Be sure to save the date for our final Great Summer Booksale at the end of May to help clear room on the shelves for all the new inventory waiting to be unveiled in the new shop!
