As I schedule and map out our work for this week, I’m grateful for the many contributions of Dr. Gladys Mae West. Dr. West’s significant work modeling the shape of the earth became the foundation on which GPS was created. This is a paltry oversimplification of the many ways she advanced knowledge, and a brief reading of her life story outlines the many ways that racism and gender bias tried to limit her.
