Six months ago, Dr. Lindo Bacon reached out to the ASDAH Leadership Team about their intent to write a revised Health at Every Size® Book. What transpired has caused a great deal of harm and a heavy burden of emotional labor for our team.

While we have grappled with the specifics of how to respond over the last few months, Marquisele Mercedes’ recent account of her experience with Lindo illuminated that Lindo’s harmful actions were a pattern in the greater community. This knowledge has catalyzed our response. We are in solidarity with Marquisele and others who have experienced harm caused by Lindo.

We want to provide transparency about the conversations and context around our decisions as the ASDAH Leadership Team.

please respect self-diagnosis even if someone doesn't have a goal of getting a professional diagnosis.⁣

it isn't hard to respect someone and accomodate their differences without knowing if they're professionally diagnosed... it just comes down to respecting and accommodating someone REGARDLESS.⁣

autistic people don't suddenly become autistic once a professional says so. ⁣

ADHDers don't suddenly become ADHD once a professional says so. ⁣

a person with psychosis doesn't suddenly start hearing voices once a professional confirms they are.⁣

ps self-diagnosed folks aren't stealing your resources since a) here are barely any to begin with and b) even professionallly diagnosed folks barely get resources, so stop using that as an excuse to invalidate self-diagnosis.⁣
