Govers Sidewall Shingling

We've been steadily busy this year and working on varied and interesting projects in Berkeley, Piedmont, Alameda and San Francisco. Every year the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association presents their Preservation Awards and we are pleased to announce that three of our completed projects are included in the this year's awards - the Chinn-Pratt House at 2512 Etna Street, the Redial House at 1177 Keith Avenue and the Hunt House at 53 Domingo Avenue. This was another replicated original detail from our recent San Francisco project with one of the final elements being the restoration of this sawtooth wave pattern over the front entry. All the shingles were cut by hand. We're looking forward to re-visiting and photographing this home after the remaining scaffolding is down and all hardscape and landscaping is complete.

A few photos of a medallion and diamond pattern restoration on a large San Francisco project. The original was done a bit roughly - as we neared completion on this shingling project I restored the original pattern with the result being a fair amount tighter and sharper than the original. This is just before the final stain.

It's always a challenge to stay current with portfolio photos of completed projects. This is a large and challenging house in Piedmont that came out great and presents well with the copper downspouts finishing it off nicely.

It's been a while since I initiated this project but thanks to the work of a talented designer who restored the original artwork, I've taken a piece of artwork that is very old and originating from Holland and proudly incorporated it into use at Govers Sidewall Shingling. The images show the original artwork, the restored and modified artwork and our new job site signage. I'm honored to use this highly unique and interesting artwork today!

The whole houses and larger projects we do are fun but smaller jobs are satisfying as well. Oliver Govers just completed this small job solo with an assortment of (long!) ladders, ladder jacks and planks. The painters are painting all the trim and these shingles are ready for stain.
