I'm decently good at most things that involve physical fitness.⁠⁠

I say most because as I found out a few weeks ago I am *not* good at rock climbing. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
But I loved it anyway!!! I'm always up for a new challenge and learning how to rock climb was very much that.⁠⁠

SLED PUSHES!!!!!! ⁠⁠

I obviously love sled pushes a whole lot. They work just about every muscle you have, they get your heart pumping and most importantly, they make you feel like a total badass. ⁠⁠

Pull ups *used* to my bread and butter. Throughout college I'd do them just about every day and could easily knock out 12 in a row.⁠⁠

That is not the case anymore.⁠⁠

At all.⁠⁠

Pull ups are f***ing hard. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
If you watch the video you'll notice my legs doing all sorts of weird things, adding in momentum where they shouldn't be. My shoulders round a bit on the last few reps because my back was getting tired. And I hang for a longggg time before attempting the last rep because I was tired as hell. ⁠⁠

Needless to say, when it comes to pull ups I'm a ways away from where I was in college. ⁠⁠

But that's ok!!! That just gives me something to work towards.⁠⁠

Jokes aside, these are TOUGH. They're sometimes called windmills, or side to side leg raises or around the worlds, whatever your name for them is, they're sure to light up your core ⁠⁠

First time cleaning in over a year and a half!!! ⁠⁠

135 felt heavyyyy, but it felt so good to be back at it!⁠⁠

A few months before pandemic I took a few lifting lifting lessons primarily focusing on the power clean and the squat to try and really dial in my form. I was making decent progress, feeling confident and strong and then the pandemic hit and I didn't touch a barbell for a year and a half 😂⁠⁠

But I'm back and I'm loving it!⁠⁠

The other day I posted a video of one of my rad clients doing a super heavy bicep curl so today I wanted to talk about one of the exercises I have all of my clients do to help increase bicep strength and power.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
In this video I'm doing eccentric focused bicep curls. The "eccentric" part of a lift is the down movement. So you'll see that I'm going down really, really, reallllly slow. Put simply, the down part of a movement is where you get the most gains. So focusing on the down part helps make you stronger! ⁠⁠

Now, you'll also notice that on the "up" part of the movement I'm using all sorts of momentum and legs and shoulders and generally have horrible bicep curl form. Regularly, I would never use that type of momentum for a bicep curl, but the point of this exercise is to overload the biceps with a weight you couldn't regularly do.⁠⁠

To do that, it sometimes takes a bit of momentum and struggle to get the weight up, but from there you focus on really smooth, controlled form on the way down. This 1. emphasizes the down portion which promotes more muscle growth and 2. teaches your body what it feels like to handle heavier loads than it's used to.⁠⁠

At first glance you watch this video and think, "ahhh how cute? is doing squats with her adorable dog!" but then after thinking about it more you're like, "oh damn, is doing squats with a 70 lbs weight and making it look easyyyyy"⁠⁠

For years tried to convince me to join the team but it always sounded absolutely awful to me because I hated rowing and they practiced before sunrise.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
Years later rowing is now my favorite form of cardio and I wake up before the sunrise every day 😅⁠⁠

Weird how life works some times

(Also pretty sure my form could use some improvement, so tips are welcome )
