A Community Tribute to a Jazz Master!
Join us at The 1905 on August 14th for a very special evening honoring bassist, composer, educator, and jazz icon Chuck Israels on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

For more than seven decades, Chuck has been a vital force in jazz, performing and recording alongside some of the greatest artists in the music's history, including Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Billie Holiday, and countless others. Beyond his remarkable accomplishments on stage and in the studio, Chuck has enriched generations of musicians through his mentorship, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the art form.

This celebration is our opportunity to recognize not only an extraordinary career, but also a beloved member of Portland's jazz community whose impact continues to be felt far beyond the bandstand.

The evening will feature live performances by friends, colleagues, and admirers, along with special surprises throughout the night—including video greetings and tributes from former bandmates, celebrated jazz artists, and friends from across the world who wish to share their appreciation for Chuck and his enduring legacy.

Whether you've known Chuck personally, studied his music, heard him perform, or simply want to celebrate one of jazz's living treasures, we invite you to be part of this unforgettable gathering.

A flutist with a background in both classical and jazz, as well as being an instructor. She has performed and toured worldwide with a wide range of artists including Billy Taylor, Kenny Barron, Stephane Grappelli, Frank Wess, Red Rodney, Laurindo Almeida, Art Farmer, Maxine Sullivan, Roy Haynes, and (as principal flutist with the Monterey Bay Symphony) with Luciano Pavarotti. She has also released numerous albums under her own name, as well as duo recordings with noted guitarist Joe Beck.

Ryerson has toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan and Africa, and has performed in many major jazz festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the JVC Jazz Festival in New York, Cork Jazz Festival, Guinness Festival in Scotland, Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, and Carnegie Hall.
