I started using CT 3D recons in preop planning, but also found it can be a great tool to look at basic anatomy. Muscles of the thoracic wall can be tricky to visualize. These pics show important anatomy for a muscle sparing (or splitting) thoracotomy. Important landmarks are the auscultatory triangle (latissimus, trapezius, and scapula), the serratus anterior, and the paraspinal muscles. Using software , I'm able to cut away the latissimus to fully view the serratus along with it insertions.

I am always amazed looking at the American Cancer Society Total New Cancer Cases and Deaths, and how lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in BOTH men and women. (Yet other cancer awareness often takes the forefront!)
