Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up - The Fall Prevention Formula: Building Power, Balance & Stability — Pure Movement | Portage, MI 06/23/2026

Most people think osteoporosis-related fractures happen because bones become weak.

While bone density matters, the reality is that many fractures occur because of a fall.
That's why improving bone health isn't just about calcium, vitamin D, or medications. It's also about improving your ability to stay upright, react quickly, and recover when you lose your balance.

As we age, three physical qualities become increasingly important:
• Balance
• Stability
• Power

These qualities help us navigate uneven surfaces, catch ourselves when we trip, and move confidently through daily life.

At our next Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up, we'll discuss why falls are the leading cause of osteoporotic fractures and what you can do to reduce your risk.

Returning to running after hip pain can feel frustrating and uncertain. Maybe the pain is gone when you're walking, but every time you try to increase mileage, pick up your pace, or run hills, symptoms return. The reality is that being pain-free doesn't always mean you're ready to run.

Successful return to running requires more than rest. It often involves rebuilding strength, improving mobility, restoring confidence, and creating a gradual progression that matches your body's current capacity. Factors like hip strength, pelvic control, running mechanics, training volume, sleep, and recovery all play a role in whether you return successfully or end up stuck in a cycle of recurring pain.

That's why Carly's words mean so much to us:

"Very knowledgeable, structured, and invested in you reaching personal goals."

Our goal isn't simply to get runners back on the road as quickly as possible—it's to help them return with confidence and a plan that supports long-term success.

Through our Return to Sport & Life programs, we combine movement assessment, strength training, education, and individualized coaching to help runners understand why their pain developed and what needs to change moving forward.

Hip pain doesn't have to be the end of your running story. With the right guidance, many runners can return stronger, move better, and gain the confidence to keep pursuing the activities they love.

🏃‍♀️ Return to running with a plan—not just hope.

If you missed it, we've put together a recap article highlighting the key lessons and conversations from the event.

We're also excited to announce our next Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up on June 30th at 10:00am. Whether you've been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, care for a loved one, or simply want to age stronger, we'd love to have you join us.

Summer running season is here.

Unfortunately, it's also the time of year when many runners increase mileage too quickly, skip strength training, and find themselves battling injuries.

The three most common running injuries we see are:
• Runner's Knee
• Shin Splints
• Achilles Tendinopathy

Research consistently shows that training errors are one of the biggest contributors to running injuries. A structured training plan, progressive strength training, adequate recovery, and proper nutrition can dramatically reduce your risk while helping you perform your best.

Check out our latest article to learn how these injuries develop—and what you can do to prevent them.

☕ Thank You for Joining Our First Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up!

On Tuesday, we hosted our first Better Bones Coffee Meet-Up: What Actually Improves Bone Density? at Pure Movement, and I want to thank everyone who attended.

We had a great discussion about osteoporosis, bone density, and what the research actually says about keeping bones strong as we age. We covered common myths, why walking alone may not always be enough to improve bone density, how bones respond to exercise through a process called loading, and the important role that strength training can play in supporting bone health.

One of the biggest takeaways was that bones are living tissue that respond to challenge throughout life. While aging does affect bone density, there are many things we can do to support strength, confidence, and independence.

As usual, I got caught up in the conversation and forgot to take pictures until the very end, so a few attendees had already left by the time I remembered! Still, I was able to grab a group photo with some of the wonderful people who joined us.

I'm excited to continue this series and create more opportunities for education, conversation, and community around healthy aging.

Our next workshop is:
☕ The Fall Prevention Formula: Building Power, Balance & Stability
📅 Tuesday, June 30th
⏰ 10:00 AM
Link: https://www.pure-movement.com/upcoming-events/the-fall-prevention-formula-workshop.

We'll discuss how improving power, balance, and stability can help reduce the risk of falls and fractures while supporting long-term independence.
Thank you again to everyone who attended. I look forward to seeing you at the next one!
