: On Friday night, PLRFAS’s Friday crew, alongside PLPD and PLVFD, responded to a reported ATV accident several miles into the woods. Two EMTs from Friday’s crew (pictured: Diego) were transported in by PLVFD’s Quad Squad to quickly assess and stabilize the patient. The third EMT remained at the roadside to maintain communication between the crew in the woods and ALS, as well as coordinate and request additional resources as needed.
During the call, the crew utilized our “Rapid Response” backpack, a red backpack carried on each of our ambulances, set up for calls where our ambulance isn’t easily accessible and our EMTs need to stay hands-free. The bag carries essential equipment from our primary jump bags, including bleeding control supplies, airway equipment, and other critical patient care tools.
The patient was then carefully extricated from the woods in a Stokes basket while being continuously monitored by our EMTs before being transferred to the ambulance for further care.
Great teamwork by all agencies involved to safely bring the patient out of a challenging environment. 🚑🚓🚒
THIS IS WHY POMPTON LAKES HAS SUCH AWESOME EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONDERS. ALL THREE DEPARTMENTS, PLPD, PLRFAS AND PLVFD WORKED VERY WELL TOGETHER TO ENSURE A POSITIVE RESULT. The actual retrieval took place in Wanaque, and Wanaque emergency services were also on scene.
Large junkyard fire in West Milford. PLVFD 55,56, and Tower 52 on scene with other mutual aid companies.
From all of us to all the moms out there, we wish you the happiest of Mother's Days. You all are awesome, and to our own wives and mothers, thank you for being so understanding and for carrying on with our families when we run off to alarms. With love ...

Our fire alarm technicians had a busy day repairing wiring and connection problems affecting our system due to various weather and motor vehicle accident related issues. Our Gamewell system still provides timely reporting separate from cellular, wi-fi, electrical and other methods. Our Gamewell system operates on low-voltage battery current supplied locally and will work during a power outage. It remains an integral part of our Alerting, Warning and Communications Annex of our State-approved Emergency Operating Plan. Thank you Bob and Jake!
Thank you to the Telecommunicators for Pompton Lakes and nearby towns for their excellent help during emergency calls. The PLVFD relies on you for clear direction and you help us do our jobs more efficiently every day.

In 2024, PLVFD received a new Pierce Mfg Tower ladder to replace our aging ladder truck. Tonight, as we continue to train and improve our use of the tower ladder, we had a seminar at our firehouse about tower operations at fire scenes. The seminar was conducted by Mike Ciampo, FDNY. We were also pleased to welcome Pequannock Fire Department Co 2 to the seminar since they just received a new tower ladder very similar to our apparatus. We are very happy to welcome our mutual aid partners and share training and camaraderie. Both fire departments are all-volunteer.
Please note that the previously scheduled Ice Rescue training for today has been canceled due to the approaching storm.
The Governor has declared a state of emergency for most of NJ, including Pompton Lakes. Snowfall is expected to exceed 12" and roads will be treacherous. Please remove your vehicles from the roadway prior to the snowfall and remove any basketball nets or other obstructions. Police will be ticketing and towing vehicles that are in violation. Our DPW will be salting and plowing, and roads must be clear of obstacles to ensure a safe and effective snow removal operation. And please be careful when working outside in the snow!

HEADS UP POMPTON!
On Sunday, February 22, the Pompton Lakes Volunteer Fire Department will be at Pompton Lake to practice ICE RESCUE. This exercise helps us to prepare for someone falling through ice. There will be many emergency apparatus at the site, and THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR CONCERN. Please be careful while driving in the area of Lakeside Ave. Thank you, and remember, NO ICE IS SAFE ICE!
