After nearly three decades helping children cross safely, Frank Sorgi officially retired as the Riverdale Crossing Guard.

Frank was previously recognized for his service by naming him a Riverdale Honorary Police Officer and celebrating his long commitment to the community. He began serving as a crossing guard in 1997 and was honored for decades of dedication to local students and families.

For many residents, a crossing guard is one of the first people children see on their way to school each day. 28 years of showing up through rain, snow, heat, and cold leaves a lasting impact.

Today, we were deeply moved by the strong turnout for our Memorial Day Ceremony at VFW Post 2906. Your presence, respect, and support meant everything as we honored the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Sadly, due to circumstances beyond our control, the Memorial Day Parade had to be cancelled. We know many of you were looking forward to marching and celebrating together, and we share in that disappointment.

Even without the parade, your commitment to remembering our fallen heroes did not go unnoticed. Thank you for standing with us and continuing to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day.

We are grateful for each and every one of you. God Bless our Veterans, our Active Duty Military, and the United States of America.

Due to the expected inclement weather unfortunately the parade tomorrow is cancelled. We will still hold our memorial ceremony at our post at 12pm. All are welcome to join us in honoring those who are no longer with us.

This morning, members of the VFW Post 2906 and community volunteers came together to place American Flags on the graves of Veterans laid to rest in Pompton Reformed Cemetery. Thank you all for coming out and assisting.

Last night was truly unforgettable! I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who participated in the event and donated to the food pantry at Pompton Reform Church. This will have a significant impact on veterans and others in our community who require assistance. Thank you for your generosity. The musical performances were outstanding. I am indebted to the musicians for their contribution to this noble cause.
