Horse community takes the reins to save Pompano Beach equestrian park from losing funding The only equestrian facility in northeast Broward County is hidden in the heart of Pompano Beach, and while it may be small, it sure is mighty.

I do post this image from time to time, it’s 428 Green St., Key West, FL the building was constructed in 1858 this picture is from the mid-1860s, in the very beginning it was the city morgue they eventually made it a icehouse probably 10 years later I guess to keep the bodies cold and make cold drinks it was also a little cigar factory, and the first telegraph office on the second floor, I stayed up there a bunch of times, there’s a ladder that goes to a secret hatch to get up there, during prohibition it was a bar called the Blind Pig, after that it was a couple more different bars one of them was called the Duvall club after that the new owner named it the “Oldest Bar” because it actually was the oldest bar in Key West, My grandfather purchased it in 1964 painted his name over the old sign and named it Captain Tony’s Saloon, before he purchased this bar it had a crazy reputation for prostitution, gambling A smuggler‘s hang out, some pretty wild drag shows on the backstage every Tuesday and Wednesday, on the weekend there were some pretty wild st*****rs, this place was off-limits to all military personnel for over three decades always military police standing out front, It took a while for my grandfather to straighten it out he did keep some things the same, definitely gambling upstairs, and of course the wild women going in and out, I was very proud to work for my grandfather from 1976 through 1983 I had a hell of a run and I got some stories I forgot one more fun fact we are the original Hemingway bar documented that’s where he did most of his drinking and thinking like myself it’s that kind of place
