You could spend $2,000 on World Cup tickets — or $5 in Burlington
By Justin Rushia, with photos courtesy of FC Green This summer, soccer fans will spend thousands of dollars to sit in the nosebleeds at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles for the 2026 World Cup. But in Burlington, real football fans also know that high-level, professional-caliber soccer can be seen for just $5 a ticket starting this month....

Rage on, Plattsburgh
Sometimes you just have to rage. On May 7, dozens (hundreds?) of students at SUNY Plattsburgh let all hell loose. They broke glass, electronics, and many other items at the Student Association's official Rage Room event to let out some pre-exam stress. And then we all aced our exams. Right, guys?

Wait, you can just… Not study here?
Choosing classes for the next semester may sound like a routine activity for American college students. But for SUNY Plattsburgh junior Mehek Chhabra of India, the ability to plan her own academic schedule has been one of the most surprising aspects of U.S. education. Whereas in India students are assigned standard classes, Chhabra's latitude to shape her own goals and pathways has stood out to her at SUNY. ...

SUNY Plattsburgh Loses its Only Einstein
By Khaelle Harris Plattsburgh is losing its only Einstein. SUNY Plattsburgh has made the not-so-genius decision to close the doors at the end of this semester on its only dedicated bagel shop, Einstein Bros. Bagels. “Genuinely I'm really upset, I love Einstein’s,” senior Giuseppina Gallicchio recently said in between bites of an Einstein Bros hash brown in Hawkins Hall. A devotee of the Texas Brisket Egg Sandwich, Gallicchio said Einstein Bros....

Michigan madness: A tour of Plattsburgh’s most famous food
By Adam Blanchard and Khaelle Harris If you go to New York City, you gotta try the pizza. In Buffalo, it’s wings. Rochester: chicken riggies. But those all pale in comparison to the state’s true No. 1 regional dish — the Michigan, which can only be found in the capital of the North Country. Come to Plattsburgh, and it’s Michigans all the way down....

Plattsburgh 101: What I wish I knew before coming to college
When picking a college, all I thought about was being as far from home as possible. I applied to UCLA, the University of Colorado and even Tompkins Cortland Community College. I just wanted to escape New York City. Ultimately, SUNY Plattsburgh offered me the best scholarship. Fast-forward to move-in day, and I was feeling good about the decision. Then the culture shock set in. ...

Plattsburgh lowers drinking age to 17; Montreal goes bankrupt
The city of Plattsburgh lowered its drinking age to 17 on St. Patrick's Day, leading to an economic boost that was quickly undercut by the amount of damage caused by drunken revelers. The city commission's decision to lower the drinking age for one day was called into question by legal scholars, but Mayor Wendell Hughes said Plattsburgh was on legal footing that was "as firm as a Michigan hotdog." …...

Between Blood and the Badge: An Indigenous Man’s Policing of the Akwesasne Civil War
When Faron Cole says it’s not a typical 9-5 job with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department, it’s an understatement. In 1990, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe erupted in violence amid disagreement over the expansion of casino gambling on the reservation at Akwesasne, which straddles the St. Lawrence River along the U.S.-Canada Border. Before it was over, two people would die in a nighttime shootout....

Betrayal of the Scoop: Stewart’s Failed the North Country
We put eight different ice cream brands on the chopping block: Haagen- Dazs, Friendly’s, Stewart’s, Breyers, Pics, Hood, Ben and Jerry’s and Turkey Hill. And I think it’s safe to say a majority of the APN staff were disappointed with our taste buds the day of this activity. Last semester, whether it was correctly guessed or not, Stewart’s was the clear winner in terms of ranks and ratings....
