For folks who've been wondering about the adoptee retreat this year: It's still happening 10/25/25. Well, political trauma happened, and planning started much later than usual. Due to the world being on fire and whatnot, the retreat will be one day this year. We'll meet in Dallas Texas (near 75/635) and registration will open once the contract is complete. "The recent election and the events that followed have been overwhelming for many people. Clients are bringing these concerns into therapy, and clinicians may feel unsure about how to help. This pay-what-you-can workshop is designed to give therapists simple tools and guidance to support clients while following ethical principles." Do whatever you need to in order to care for yourself. Take some time to allow your nervous system to recover, if only a bit. Feed yourself, drink water, get rest, take your meds, dial back the media exposure, make your therapy appointment, take a walk, make cookies for your neighbors and take care of each other. One thing at a time. Triage. If you need support, we're here.

Ethics are coming! Hosted by Univ. of Maryland School of Social Work. I'll be teaching this (popular) live, virtual session on 10/31. We will compare the OVC ethical standards for serving victims of crime with various Codes of Ethics, and work through some case examples together. Ethics isn't always the most exciting topic but I promise it will be bearable! I hope you'll join us.
