Thank you to Sierra Wildlife Rescue for another animal meet and greet, this time featuring an Albino Raccoon and a Ringtail! We love learning about the lives and habitats of these cool critters. 🐾

The El Dorado Western Railroad is hosting a patriotic Stars & Stripes Express train ride on Saturday, July 4th!

Tickets go on sale at 9:30 AM:
$12 for adults & children 9 & up
$3 for children 4 to 8
Free for children 3 & under

A processing fee is added to each ticket.

Call (530) 663-3581 for questions and to confirm departure times. The telephone is monitored on scheduled train ride days from 9 am to 1 pm. Please remember that there are a limited number of seats available for each train. Riders younger than 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. No animals are allowed on board. The round trip (50 to 60 minutes) takes you east from the depot on the historic Southern Pacific Placerville Branch rail line. The train stops short of Missouri Flat Road, before returning to the depot.

We had an amazing turnout for the Wild Things animal show at the library, and meeting all the different animals was so much fun. What was your favorite animal?

All El Dorado County Libraries will be closed Saturday, May 23rd through Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.

Are you a history buff? Do you consider yourself a lifelong learner? Then join us at the Placerville Library, 345 Fair Lane, on Friday, May 15 at 3:00 pm as we welcome historian Etsuko Haegele for a presentation on her family’s internment camp experiences during WWII.

Etsuko explains, “It was through searching for my mother’s side of the family tree that I discovered what the family went through during WWII.” She will be sharing a DVD of her family’s life prior to World War II and of the incarceration in the camps during the war as well as sharing stories from a friend who lived in Oahu and family who lived in Japan. “This may be a small unit of history which we all may have missed in high school.”

This presentation is part of One Book, One Coast – the largest West Coast book club uniting more than 140 libraries across California, Oregon, and Washington as they celebrate literacy, learning, and community by featuring George Takei’s “They Called Us Enemy.”
