Despite a rainy Pittsburgh day, it was all sunshine and smiles at Echo Counseling’s Selective Mutism camp this morning ☀️

Today’s theme was: running errands with our parents!

We decorated our shopping bags with potato stamps, shopped for ingredients to make brownies, made our own library cards—oh, and tons of brave talking practice too!

So excited for the next round in July!

I'm having so much fun prepping for these sessions!

Kids can expect some really fun experiences including:

🎉Sensory play
🎉Story time
🎉A surprise activity that requires working together

Parents can expect:
🎉Plenty of time for kids to warm up
🎉A fun, supportive group led by a child psychologist
🎉An opportunity to practice separating from their child if desired (parents can hang out upstairs while the group happens! This is great practice if you are worried about how your kid will react to you leaving them with a babysitter, for an upcoming trip, school drop off, etc.)

Little Brave Steps Play Group June 17th 10am 06/09/2026

🌟 Little Brave Steps Play Group — June 17th at 10am!
Does your child cling at drop-off? Take a long time to warm up around other kids? Have a hard time in new situations?
We created Little Brave Steps with exactly those kids in mind.
This small, supportive play group gives preschoolers and kindergarteners the chance to practice separating from parents, building social skills, and being brave — in a gentle, school-like environment with lots of support along the way. Summer is the perfect time to work on those brave muscles before back-to-school season arrives!
Each session includes:
🔹 Warm-up time
🔹 Circle time
🔹 A fun collaborative activity
Parents are required to stay for the duration of the group, but may choose to wait in a separate room — giving your child the chance to practice independence on their own terms.
Bonus for parents: Don't miss our optional accompanying webinar with Dr. Vaughan, licensed child psychologist and owner of Child Behavior Learning Pittsburgh! She'll walk you through concrete strategies to support your child at play group and beyond so you feel just as prepared as they do.

Confession—I did not think getting my daughter ready for preschool would be “that big of a deal”.

After all, I’ve helped many parents get their children ready for a new school year in my work as a child psychologist.

But after experiencing it for myself—wow, that is HARD work! And if you have a shy/slow to warm up child, that can increase the stress.

☀️will she be ok at drop off?
☀️what do I do or say if he cries?
☀️will he be able to make friends?
☀️is there anything I can do now to prep her, or is it better to just see what happens?

I am very fortunate that, as a preschool parent, I also have years of training in behavioral psychology, so when things get tricky I know what to do, but MORE IMPORTANTLY I know how to prep my child ahead of time so that things are easier on both of us.

I want to make sure that YOU have that knowledge too!

In my Little Brave Steps webinar, you will get 5 short lessons about
☀️what is child anxiety
☀️preventions to make tough moments easier
☀️how to teach your child new skills to face tough moments
☀️new ways of reacting to anxious behavior
☀️simple strategies for teaching social skills at home

You can even check out the first lesson for free to make sure it’s a good fit 😊

This is perfect for parents of kids starting preschool through first grade in the fall 🍎

What are you waiting for? You know how fast the summer is going to fly by—make sure you get Little Brave Steps course today!
