Who’s going to join us this time? We always appreciate any help we can get along with whatever time you have available. You don’t need to stay the entire time. We provide all necessary supplies as well as snacks and water! Who doesn’t love snacks?

We’ll meet in the public parking lot at 1563 Beechview Ave. Plan to arrive a few minutes early for sign-in and safety discussion. Please wear sturdy shoes/boots and clothing that is appropriate for the weather and possibly getting dirty. We have things to do for all ages and abilities and can sign off on community service hours, if needed.

Dear Neighbors,

We are seeking your help in providing some locations that you know need to be cleaned up. We want to make sure that we are tackling as many spaces as possible with our monthly cleanups. There are a few stipulations:
1) Not Coast, Crane, or any other high traffic space without safe walking paths
2) We need there to be an area for people to access easily and to set up, this includes nearby parking for anyone who needs to drive.
3) There needs to be space to stage everything we gather so that DPW can easily access it for pickup when we are done.
4) We need volunteers!

So, what are some streets/areas that you know could really use some love that fit the above criteria? Let us know. Looking for a different spot for our June cleanup which will be June 6th 10am - 12pm. Thanks!

Solicitamos su ayuda para identificar algunos lugares que, según ustedes, necesitan ser limpiados. Queremos asegurarnos de abarcar tantos espacios como sea posible con nuestras jornadas mensuales de limpieza. Existen algunas condiciones:
1) No deben ser zonas costeras, el área de Crane ni ningún otro espacio de alto tráfico que carezca de senderos peatonales seguros.
2) Es necesario que haya un área de fácil acceso donde el grupo pueda instalarse; esto incluye contar con estacionamiento cercano para quienes necesiten llegar en vehículo.
3) Debe haber espacio suficiente para acopiar todo lo que recolectemos, de modo que el Departamento de Obras Públicas (DPW) pueda acceder fácilmente a ello para su recogida una vez que hayamos terminado.
4) ¡Necesitamos voluntarios!

Entonces, ¿qué calles o zonas conocen que realmente necesiten un poco de atención y que cumplan con los criterios mencionados? Háganoslo saber. Estamos buscando un lugar diferente para nuestra jornada de limpieza del mes de junio, la cual se llevará a cabo el día 6 de junio, de 10:00 a. m. a 12:00 p. m. ¡Gracias!

Our first cleanup of the season and in just a short amount of time, with 13 of us, we hauled all of this from various spots around the neighborhood. Are we proud of our efforts? Absolutely! Are we grateful for the wonderful humans who came out on a Saturday morning to help the neighborhood? A million times, yes! Are we going to keep striving to beautify the neighborhood? Of course! Are we happy it has to be done? Nope. Never.

Now, here is where I point out the fact that a very large portion of this pile came out of the Jardín de Unidad. We were extremely disheartened to find that someone used it and surrounding properties as an absolute dumping ground recently. This is unacceptable behavior. We are a very small non-profit organization that is charged with maintaining not only the appearance of that cute little community green space but we also have to pay the insurance for it. We want people to be able to use and enjoy the space safely and responsibly and when things like this happen, that’s not possible. Please dispose of your electronics, tires, and construction debris through proper channels. Dumping it in the neighborhood and making it someone else’s problem is not okay.

Ha sido nuestra primera jornada de limpieza de la temporada y, en muy poco tiempo —siendo tan solo 13 personas—, logramos retirar todo este material de diversos puntos del vecindario. ¿Estamos orgullosos de nuestro esfuerzo? ¡Por supuesto! ¿Estamos agradecidos con las maravillosas personas que salieron un sábado por la mañana para ayudar al vecindario? ¡Un millón de veces, sí! ¿Seguiremos esforzándonos por embellecer el vecindario? ¡Claro que sí! ¿Estamos contentos de que esto tenga que hacerse? No. En absoluto.

Ahora bien, es aquí donde debo señalar que una parte muy considerable de este montón de basura provino del Jardín de Unidad. Nos sentimos sumamente desolados al descubrir que, recientemente, alguien utilizó este jardín —así como las propiedades circundantes— como un auténtico vertedero. Esta conducta es inaceptable. Somos una organización sin fines de lucro muy pequeña, encargada no solo de mantener la estética de ese encantador espacio verde comunitario, sino también de cubrir los costos de su seguro. Deseamos que la gente pueda utilizar y disfrutar de este espacio de manera segura y responsable; sin embargo, cuando ocurren situaciones como esta, eso resulta imposible. Por favor, deshágase de sus aparatos electrónicos, neumáticos y escombros de construcción a través de los canales adecuados. Arrojar estos desechos en el vecindario y convertirlo en un problema ajeno es una conducta inaceptable.
