The Citizen Science Lab
Pittsburgh’s first community life sciences laboratory.
We didn't want to wait for Netflix, so we made our own documentary: "For Da' Culture"! 🧬🎬
In this TWO part documentary series, follow founder/CEO Dr. Andre Samuel and The Citizen Science Lab from origin to expansion. Two chapters. One community. A full-blown hands-on STEM movement.
🌱 Chapter 1: Genesis — the founding story and our mission to create science pipelines in Pittsburgh (and beyond!)
🚀 Chapter 2: Synthesis — our growth into a new home in the Hill District, built to expand access to discovery-based learning

Alumnus Highlight: William Generett III🎓 🧪
ICE-T grad. Pitt Bio grad. Future Michigan med student. Founder of Equity Health Systems.
William's path started with systems thinking at The Citizen Science Lab's (TCSL) ICE-T project, where early coding experience shaped how he solves complex problems. As Operations Supervisor at East Liberty Family Health Care Center, one of Pittsburgh's largest FQHCs, he saw the operational gaps holding community health centers back. So he built the fix: scheduling and operations tools designed specifically for them.
From code to clinic to company, proud of you, William!👏🧬

A new chapter for the Hill District begins here! 🌱🔬
We had the pleasure of welcoming our incredible donors to a private tour of The Citizen Science Lab's new home with .afro_. This space represents so much more than a laboratory, it's a promise to our community that STEM opportunities and access are here to stay. A vibrant state-of-the-art STEM laboratory built to inspire, connect, and empower generations of young innovators.
To those who joined us and those who couldn't, your generosity is the foundation of everything we're building. The Hill District has a new anchor, and it wouldn't exist without YOU. We couldn't thank you enough!🙌🧬
