🚨 OUT NOW 🚨 Her students have caught 66 (‼️) of her mistakes…and she encourages them to keep counting? In this episode of Lunchbox Confessionals, 2024 Connecticut Teacher of the Year Kiana Foster-Mauro shares why owning mistakes is part of the lesson.

Over (a questionable) lunch, the 4th grade teacher gets candid about becoming her team’s lead in her FIRST year of teaching, what teachers really think about staff meetings, and the daily moments that make her question the job — and keep her coming back.

Plus:
👉 Why she’s not a fan of homework (and what she wants kids doing instead)
👉 How she helps students talk about identity, race, and the world around them
👉 The message she wants every parent in America to hear
👉 What she wishes policymakers could see inside her classroom
👉 Her students’ burning questions 👀

And because this is Lunchbox Confessionals, dodging a question comes with a food swap with Tyler Tarver. On the menu? Spicy Buldak ramen, sardines, and some questionable teacher’s lounge cookies that may or may not be from last holiday season. 🥴

"This is my dream curriculum as a 9th grade ELA teacher! AND honestly, the kind of curriculum I wish I had growing up.

I got to take a look through Carnegie Learning’s Lenses on Literature, and I immediately noticed how colorful, engaging, and accessible the student edition workbook was.

I loved how the first unit (The Anatomy of a Hero) would create student buy-in, so that as we moved through the rest of the units, we could guide our students through deeper conversations and connections to themselves, their communities, and the world around them.

Overall, the curriculum feels thoughtfully designed (all-green on EdReports in both Core gateways!), and at the same time provides space for me as a 6th year teacher to adapt/customize my lessons to match my personality and meet all of the differing needs of each student in my classroom."
