oneBURGH Extinction: So much in Pittsburgh is on the brink of extinction - Penn Brewery, most bridges, our economy, our water, our air, our football team…wait…holy crap…like whoa! Anyway…
How about a comeback story?
The National Aviary announced the successful hatching of a Guam Kingfisher chick, also known as a sihek. The Guam Kingfisher was declared extinct in the ‘80s.
Aviary Yinzers are at the forefront of the species return along with other labs.
Last year, Guam Kingfishers were returned to the wild for the first time in nearly 40 years. Of the nine birds selected for that historic release, three were hatched right here in Pittsburgh at the Aviary.
The National Aviary might be the most underrated attraction in Pittsburgh. They’re helping write one of the greatest conservation comeback stories on the planet. Any thoughts on saving Pittsburgh Regional Transit?
It’s a JAM PACKED Weekend in Pittsburgh! Morgan Wallen, Pride, Arts Festival….and…you already know. reports for oneBURGH.

oneBURGH Sign: We had plenty of fun goofing on Brentwood’s 4th of July banner last year.
It was an instant grammatical classic - celebrating the 42th Annual Parade. 🤯
The new sign is up and they punted. The 4th of July tradition (one of the best in Western PA) is happening, but the powers-that-be decided not to mention how many consecutive years they’ve done it.
Good call. Better to be safe than sorry. Turn dahn the heat. Revisit it in 2027 and celebrate the 44nd next year. 😂

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is a special place. Tons of fun for baseball fans with Play Ball! The Art of George Sosnak.
A Pittsburgh renaissance man…multi-talented. He created full-detailed stories on baseballs using India Ink and magnifying glasses. Incredible.
Make a day of it in Greensburg. The museum is FREE and filled with hands-on fun, immersive experiences, and MINI-GOLF.
Beary snuck in a Hank Aaron ball that we really loved, too.

SOS: Save Our Swamp ™️
Today’s entry comes from oneBURGH member and Top Fan Brandy Stringer, checking in from West Deer Township.
This water is a thick, murky beige-green. If you dropped your car keys in there, they are gone forever to the abyss.
🟢 TO ENTER: If your backyard currently looks like a retention pond, drop a photo below.
🏆 THE PRIZE: Swimming Pool Discounters on Babcock Blvd. is rescuing one winner with a massive haul of chemicals to turn these local tragedies back into actual water.
The King of Pittsburgh’s proclamation concerning The Old Mill at Kennywood. A Pittsburgh landmark 😘

oneBURGH Update: Earlier this week, we reported that Rostraver Township became Rats-traver Township when a house was cited for creating “a sanctuary” for thousands of rats. The neighborhood has been taken over.
UPDATE! You might want to sit down. This story has unlocked a bonus level.
Township officials say they spent six hours Thursday removing 40 to 50 pigs from the same property. 🐖 The pigs were living in small enclosures among piles of trash. Officials also found dogs and cats on the property (shocker).
Good God!
WPXI’s Rich Pierce (too handsome for the Mon Valley, we said what we said) tried to call the owner, Wendi Kraemer, but she didn’t answer.
☎️ “You’ve reached my voicemail. Oh rats, I can’t come to the phone right now, my phone is on the other side of the room and 40 pigs are in my way. Leave a message.”
Beeeeep.
“Hey Wendi, very-handsome Rich Pierce from WPXI calling. I’m flying a drone over your house right now. Gordon wanted me to find out about all these pigs…and rats…call me. Oink oink.”
Kraemer is facing a misdemeanor public nuisance charge and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
