Literacy Pittsburgh creates better lives through learning for adults in Beaver and Allegheny Counties

Program Coordinator Lisa Morse attends a community event hosted by Hello Neighbor. She was joined by Dick Jennings, who volunteers with both Hello Neighbor and Literacy Pittsburgh!

Lisa shared: "Several students came up and spoke to me. One of mine brought her daughters over to color on some coloring pages I had, and we chatted for a few minutes. It was a joyous day, filled with music, food and laughter -- and it didn't rain! Another of my former students, Elisa, was there taking professional pictures for them. It's always good to see students enjoying themselves and sharing their talents."

Students Luis and Marielis got married in a small courthouse ceremony. They asked their tutor, Colten, to be their witness! Additionally, Colten married his partner the same month! Tutors sign up to help students meet their goals and often find they can celebrate life's moments too!

Help us in welcoming Kabang as an ISAC Service Coordinator! She graduated this past December from Carlow University with a degree in Psychology after transferring from Allegheny College in 2024.

During college, she was involved in leadership roles serving as a Resident Assistant, Secretary and Co-President of African Student Association (ASA) and working in the Allegheny College Global Health Department. This past summer, she completed the Basic Needs Internship with SHIM, where I gained experience supporting clients and connecting them to community resources to help address barriers they were facing.

She is passionate about supporting diverse communities and helping others feel supported and seen!
