Last night at the was not just fashion, it was affirmation. It was poetry draped in fabric, the sound of resilience in every drum beat, and the glow of generations standing in one room.

It was a living reminder that we are the art,
the muse, and the message.

I had the pleasure of strutting the runway and to me, every step was a prayer, every pose, a love note, every woman, a mirror reflecting grace and glory.

I cried for days leading up to show day, I was so overwhelmed with emotions that I felt like I’ve been carrying for generations. However, through genuine fellowship and black girl gas up commentary, we lifted each up and suddenly my ground was filled with clouds and petals.

To be seen, to be celebrated, to be loved out loud is truly something worth preparing for. That’s the real runways. Such a beautiful love letter to black women.

I was just thinking about the adversity my Grandma Madge had to experience being the first African American Model for the Kaufmann’s department store downtown Pittsburgh, Pa. A time where both her and Kaufmanns were trying to navigate being leaders in the new world of integration. Although Kaufmanns has closed, my grandmother’s fearlesssness left a mark on her legacy and I often see it within me. EVERYTIME I see this photo, I’m reminded of the marathon and it seems to always come when I’m taking a little breaky break lol I tattooed this woman on my back for this very reason! Her wings in the sky help me fly while I’m on earth doing what God assigned me to do 😇
