Humotech has been granted a patent for a prosthesis and orthosis testing system (US12616591B1).
The work began in 2020, when Josh Caputo, Matty Major, and Tianyao Chen set out to address a common challenge: meaningful device testing is often limited to specialized labs, with little transparency.
Their goal was a testing approach that’s more accessible and lower cost—so engineers, researchers, and clinicians can better understand device performance, including closer to the point of care.
With support from a 2024 VA effort, that early concept has continued to move forward.
This patent marks an important step toward more practical and transparent device testing.

Last week, our CEO Josh Caputo was proud to represent Humotech at the 2026 Robotics Summit & Expo in Boston.
Thank you to WTWH Media LLC and The Robot Report for organizing another excellent event, and to MassRobotics for the opportunity to participate. These gatherings play an important role in strengthening connections across the robotics ecosystem.
A special thanks to Jenn Apicella and the Pittsburgh Robotics Network for a thoughtful panel discussion and continued leadership in building bridges between and .
It was great to reconnect with friends and collaborators, including Lauren Brenneman at Simbex. We’re excited to share meaningful progress with the community at next year’s event.
While in Boston, we also had the opportunity to visit Dr. Paulo Bonato’s team and Dr. David Crandell at Spaulding Rehabilitation. They’ve built a truly special rehabilitation ecosystem, and we’re grateful for the chance to get to know their work.

What is 𝘌𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯™?
It’s a commitment to grounding clinical decisions in real-world data—and keeping patients at the center of that process.
When care is informed by evidence, it leads to better alignment between what’s prescribed and how someone actually moves, lives, and progresses. That means fewer assumptions, more clarity, and care that adapts as patients do.

Stay tuned for the final installment next week.
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Humotech.
Through years of work with researchers, engineers, clinicians, and people who use assistive technologies, one thing has become clear: patients and care teams need better ways to experience, compare, and understand device options before life‑changing selection decisions are made.
That brings us to what’s next.
We are proud to introduce a refreshed Humotech brand and new website that reflect who we are today and where we are going. Our focus is bringing our technology‑enabled clinical prosthetic foot trialing services to the forefront—supporting more personalized clinical decisions informed by experiential data.
Innovation remains foundational to Humotech. But our momentum has grown to the point where we are ready to clearly signal this evolution—what we call Evidence in Motion™️.
For patients, providers, and payors alike, the goal is simple: better decisions, powered by precise comparative data. Join us!

Please join us in welcoming Verity Rampulla to Humotech as our Engineering Intern.
Verity is a recent University of Pittsburgh graduate in biomechanical engineering with a strong interest in prosthetics, orthotics, and assistive technology. She brings both technical rigor and creativity to her work—along with a genuine curiosity about how engineering decisions affect real people.
Outside the lab, Verity enjoys reading, writing, painting, and baking, and she’s excited to contribute to the thoughtful, human-centered work happening across the Humotech team.
One of her favorite quotes says it well:
“𝘈𝘯 𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧-𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭; 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧-𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘺; 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦.” — Oscar Wilde
We’re glad to have you with us, Verity!
