Water for Baby not Bot!
Gallery Opening Tonight, 6 - 10 pm
Hack the Future is Assemble’s paid teen program. Each Friday afternoon, we’ve learned from guest makers, artists, and technologists to build up our maker skills as well as our understanding of the world around us and our place in it.
This year, we chose to focus our attention on generative AI, asking questions of experts in the field and of ourselves. Who benefits from this tech? Who controls it? What are their goals? Who does it leave out? How does it even work? What does it do well? What does it do poorly? What physical resources are being used to build it? What are the long-term effects on human privacy, creativity, and truth?
Water for Baby not Bot! is our rejection of all the reasons & justifications we’ve been told to accept about generative AI from the people who peddle it. Human-made art is not a product, aesthetic, or a job. Art is inherent to the human experience and cannot be replaced by machines. Long live human art! Messy, honest, human art!
Thank you to the following people for helping us along the way: CJ Swanson, Tom Ndiaye, Leo Hsu, Chase Klingensmith, Adam Paulisick, Myrah-Ashly Dixon, Orion Asa, Brent Nakamoto, Born Shamir, Miracle Jones, Etta Cetera, James Yaya Bough, Sarah Boyle, Vic Adair, Hallie Bateman, Nsai Temko, Evelyn Adair, and the folks from PGH Glass Center!

21+ Night - Carnivorous Bog Gardens!
WE STILL HAVE SPOTS! Registration link in bio.
Date: May 15 • 19:00
Carnivorous plants have a reputation for being difficult to grow, but they can actually be low maintenance when you know what to do!
In this workshop, Dave Harter will lead us through the basics of carnivorous plants' often finicky needs. This will include the plants' special water, soil, and light requirements. We will also go over slightly more intermediate subjects such as winter dormancy and when/how to feed your plant. Attendees will build and take home their own small bog garden with three carnivorous plants, along with a plant light and everything else you'll need keep them thriving!

Assemble's Unblurred Gallery presents the work of Setuk in his show, Extrasensory Psychosis. Join us this First Friday 5/1 on Penn Ave, 6-10 pm, for an evening of black-lit paintings and interactive light experiences!
Setuk Raymond Gregoire is known for exploring applications of synesthesia and experimental painting. Through a combination of techniques, he captures the "images" of sounds, merging them to create new expressions. A self-taught artist based in West Virginia, Setuk's work ranges many styles as he is dedicated to versatility in expression.
This series - Extrasensory Psychosis - is an exploration of the emotions experienced by those affected by mental illness. Each piece is composed, pushing the boundaries between a layered, composite style and his synesthesia technique, all centered around evoking emotion in the viewer.
Find him on Facebook "Original Art by Setuk"

Last week's Sundae Sunday was such a blast, huge shoutout to Leona's Ice Cream and all the wonderful unicorns who showed up to help support Assemble's mission.
Every Sundae counts this month, and this past Sunday Leona's sold 64 Sundaes!
However, there's only one more Sunday left to support Assemble at Leona's and we are so close to raising $500!
So this Draft Weekend take a break from the bustle downtown and make your way to 5119 Penn Ave and get yourself a birthday cake flavored treat and help us reach our goal 🦄🍦🎂🦄
