Hello all,
I would never had thought that I would write you regarding a virus that infects humans and not machines. This is a first for me…
We are now threading in uncharted territories and unfortunately things will get worse before they become better, but there are things we can do to prevent spreading the virus and to delay it as much as possible, while continuing to conduct our business.
Today the CDC has issued recommendations for people who are at highest risk for getting ill from the virus. One of the recommendations that affects many of us and our relatives is that people over 60 should stock up on food, medication and other necessities so they can avoid needing to venture out. I am sure this will have an impact on many of us and our businesses.
If your business allows you to work remotely and to minimize contact, you should definitely consider it. And while I will leave all the health recommendations to the CDC and other health officials, here is what we can do to help:
1. If you are not setup to work remotely yet, drop us an email and we will configure your laptops for remote access.
2. Video conference is a great solution for meetings. If you haven’t tapped in this technology yet – time to dive in. You will realize that you can get things done faster, save on gas and gain a bonus of staying healthy from the comfort of your house.
3. Consider ways of minimizing contact with your clients if possible. Increase use of emails and phone conversations. Use your website to effectively communicate with your target audience. Use delivery services if you can.
But even if the recommended steps above do not apply to you or your business, there is more we can all do to help find a vaccine! Scientists need computer power to perform a gigantic amount of numeric calculations , testing a multitude of variations of protein folding structures in search for a vaccine. Thanks to a collaboration between the Folding@home Consortium and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, you can donate your unused computational resources so researchers can use them to better understand the coronavirus.
We at CompuWiz have decided to support this endeavor and donate our time. If you want to be part of this effort just let us know. We will download the research application on your computers, make sure it is secure and configure the hours it can operate such that it does not impact your normal routines. This effort can be used also for investigating other diseases, so if you want to participate and Coronavirus is not your choice – let us know and we will help you pick where your computing resources are best put to use.
Join us in helping make this a better world!

Need better battery life on your iPhone? DONT quit your apps!
Quitting Apps in iOS Actually Worsens Battery Life It's long been prescribed that when your iPhone's battery is running poorly that you close out all the running apps to help preserve battery life (we've mentioned it before). That makes sense if you're using a computer, but as writer (and former Genius Bar technician) Scotty Loveless points out, tha...
