Print's publisher, Ann Belser will be speaking to the Squirrel Hill Historical Society tonight at 7:30 about local news. Come join us at the Church of the Redeemer in Squirrel Hill, Forbes Avenue, right next to St. Edmund and two doors from the JCC.
Deliveries today (Wednesday, Sept. 18) were thwarted by car trouble. Subscribers will get their papers on time and the paper is on the newsstands in Squirrel Hill, but we did not get to our other stops today. We will get there tomorrow.
Come see Print's own historian, Jan Kurth at the East Liberty Valley Historical Society at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Calvary Church. Shadyside. She will be talking about the questions surrounding the deaths of 4 people buried at Smithfield Cemetery.

Jan Kurth's new novel, the Market Women of Diamond Square, is now available on Amazon for Kindle pre-orders. If you want a printed copy, that will be out soon, too. It is pretty exciting. East Enders, the parent company of Print is stepping into publishing (yeah, that is us, too). This is our first book, next we are looking to publish a book of Jan's "Whatever Happened to..." columns next.

Coming to the end of Journalism Awards season, Print's coverage has won three first place awards the Keystone Professional Media contest, for investigative reporting, headline writing (which includes one of my favorites "Legislature puts the breaks on E-scooters"), and Excellence in reporting on Diversity-Equity and Inclusion, and a second place for ongoing coverage.
In the Golden Quills we took home two top prizes for Education reporting and Public Affairs/Politics/Government Series.
In Allegheny County's headline race, if my math is correct, Sara Innamorato is a lock to become the first woman to serve as our county executive. Meanwhile Matt Dugan, who knocked District Attorney Stephen Zappala off the Democratic ticket, has lost to Zappala who turned around and ran as a Republican.
But the more remarkable aspect of this election is that 40.37% of the registered voters cast ballots in this most local of races. In the 2020 general election of Biden vs Trump, the turnout was 77%, but still, this was higher than the 33% of the last municipal election year. Go Allegheny County voters!
Happy New Year!

Frick Park is now open. You can check out the collapsed bridge from Forbes Avenue on the Squirrel Hill side. Tranquil Trail is closed as a through trail, but it is open up to 100 yards from the bridge.

The push to make sure every vote is counted got a boost in the East End Thursday morning. Print was there with voters who had mailed in their ballots and wanted to make sure their votes are counted.
