⭐️️ NEW COMMONPLACE OPENING IN SHADYSIDE ⭐️️

Commonplace Coffee is delighted to announce plans for a new cafe and bakery in Shadyside, scheduled to open later this summer. The location will occupy the space formerly held by Georgie’s Corner Cafe at 5743 Walnut Street.️ In addition to operating as a community coffee shop, this new location will relocate a significant portion of Commonplace's kitchen and baking operations from Indiana, Pennsylvania into Pittsburgh.

Commonplace is profoundly grateful for this unique opportunity to steward the beautiful community created by George and Beth Saxon at Georgie’s Corner Cafe over the past four years.

“We’re incredibly excited to step into this next chapter, building on the thoughtful foundation Beth and George created over the past few years,” said TJ Fairchild, founder of Commonplace Coffee. “We’re honored to carry this work forward and to help ensure the Shadyside coffeehouse remains a welcoming place to connect over great coffee and fresh baked goods.”

“Our biggest hope was that we could find a local business to take over the Georgie’s café space who would continue some elements of what we’d been doing,” said George Saxon, co-founder of Georgie's Corner Cafe. “We are so happy that Commonplace Coffee is it! Commonplace is an excellent fit for the Shadyside neighborhood because Georgie’s customers want delicious coffee that is ethically sourced and roasted locally. Georgie’s was known for exceptional pastries, and the Commonplace culinary team will continue this high standard for the community.”

Commonplace's new location is slated to open later this summer. Stay updated on key milestones and the announcement of an official open date through Commonplace’s newsletter and social media pages ().

Today, Commonplace Coffee offered voluntary recognition of Commonplace Coffee Workers United, a collective bargaining unit represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776. This decision follows the completion of a demonstrated majority card check for Pittsburgh employees.

Commonplace Coffee Founder TJ Fairchild shares, “For the past 23 years, Julie and I have done our best to care for our team and build a company rooted in respect, dignity, and community. Our team has spoken, and we intend to carry that same spirit into this next chapter as we begin the process of bargaining together toward our first contract.”

Commonplace deeply values the contributions of our employees. We look forward to bargaining in good faith and building a constructive relationship with the union moving forward.
