CAlcium and VAsopressin following Injury Early Resuscitation, or simply CAVALIER, is a research study that will look at whether giving calcium before arriving to the hospital, and vasopressin earlier in the hospital course, will improve outcomes for someone who is injured and bleeding badly. This research study is conducted under Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC) and will enroll approximately 1050 patients across select Level 1 Trauma Centers around the country (including UPMC Presbyterian).
University of Pittsburgh researchers are conducting a prehospital calcium and early in-hospital vasopressin study called CAVALIER. This study may affect you or someone you know and we need to find out ahead of time what the residents of Pittsburgh and the surroundings areas think about it.
