Whitehall America250 The Whitehall America250 Committee is planning a series of activities throughout Whitehall Borough this year to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence....

🌟 Today, we honor Juneteenth🌟 — also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day — a holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans who had been enslaved in the United States and their resilience.

What is Juneteenth? ❓
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed almost two and a half years earlier, the news of this important decision didn’t reach Texas until June 19th, 1865.

On that day, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free.
