Trash Cat Rescue
We are a small but dedicated 501c3 nonprofit cat rescue. Our mission is to reduce feline suffering and overpopulation using a combination of TNR and adoptions.
We foster and socialize whenever we have the resources to do so, including behavioral cats and kittens who might otherwise just be candidates for TNR. Located in Pittsburgh PA

Meet Petunia! She comes from a colony of cats that lived outdoors until Trash Cat stepped in to help her. She is a very shy tortie girl who enjoys pets, but on her own terms.
Petunia is gentle and enjoys calm pets and the occasional Churu from your hands, but sometimes she just wants to be left alone. She has shown interest when her humans are cleaning up her space, or refilling her food and water, but she does not always like to be approached. She would be best in a calm home that will allow her to have her space to explore and observe you from afar, and approach you when she is comfortable to do so.
This reserved girl adores her roommate, Mackey! They cuddle and play all the time. Mackey also accepts pets and treats when he is feeling comfortable. Please consider adopting them together, as they have proven to really find comfort in one another. Petunia (and Mackey?) would do best in an adult only home, with someone who can give them the time and space they need to blossom.
Petunia is estimated to be around three years old. She is spayed, microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, vaccinated, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Are you looked for a sweet but shy kitty? Consider Petunia!

Introducing, Mackey! Mackey is a very reserved boy. He comes from an outdoor colony, and has developed into a very healthy cat with a shiny, thick black coat. He is not the outgoing type, but he will let you approach him and pet him on his head and neck. He loves being loved on all over with a back scratcher, and will sit as long as you are willing to give him attention.
Mackey would be best suited in a home that allows him to have his own space, and to quietly observe you from afar. He enthusiastically accepts Churus from your hand! If given the proper time, he may come around to be more outgoing, but an adult-only home or a home with older kiddos would likely be the best fit.
Mackey lives with a sweet, and also shy, tortie girl (Petunia). They adore each other and are constantly at each other’s side sleeping, grooming, and playing. They can typically be found snugging in the cat tree cubby together and would love to be adopted as a pair.
Mackey is estimated to be about three years old. He is neutered, flea treated, dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated and has tested FeLV- / FIV+. Do you have room in your home and heart for this gentle house panther? Please apply today!

Are you looking for a spunky, very high energy cat that is excited to be your absolute best friend! This is Verso, however he is known by many other nicknames: “Velcro”, “Mr. Mustachio” and our favorite, “Baboon Butt”. If you look at him from the front you would think nothing is different about him. However, look at the back end of him and you’ll see that life as a stray was not very kind to him. We’re not sure of what happened, but he came to us with a tail so severely damaged that it had to be completely amputated... hence the nickname.
Luckily, despite missing a somewhat essential body part, Verso acts as if nothing is different. He has no litterbox or incontinence issues as a result of his prior injury. He is very active, and he wants to play pretty much all the time. The only time he’s not playing is when he’s being held, cuddling, sitting in your lap, or begging for pets. He’s easy to handle and confident enough to tackle new adventures. He knows no strangers, and he makes friends with everyone. He loves other cats and wants to make friends with them quickly. Verso has a lot of confident energy and a rough play style which might be too much for calmer cats. Although he enjoys his foster friends, he could possibly be fine going home as a solo cat so he doesn’t have to worry about sharing your attention (as long as you have time to give him a LOT of it!). He loves kids, as he follows around the foster family’s toddler meowing and asking for pets. Verso even seemed to be fine with foster family’s dog (as long as the dog is respectful of his space)! He would be a great addition to many different families.
Verso is estimated to be around one year old. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Who needs a tail when everything else is a 10/10? Would you like a super velcro, super needy, overly friendly kitty in your life? Please apply today!

Desist - don’t even think about it! Unless you are considering adopting this lovely cat, in which case you are encouraged to apply.
Desist (and his sister, Cease) came to us several months ago as stray kittens from an outdoor colony. Although they needed some help with socialization at first, they have come a long way and are now (for the most part) regular law-abiding citizens.
Desist has always been the most outgoing and nicest of his littermates. This guy can still be a little shy with being picked up and handled, but for the most part once he knows you he is receptive to pets and yummy snacks (aka bribes - shh don’t tell). He enjoys catnip kicker toys and rolling around on the “good stuff”. Desist would do best in a home with patient adopters who can start him off in a small room and give him some time to acclimate to her new surroundings. He would likely do best with adults or older kiddos, although very cat-savvy, respectful youngins may be OK. He has been fostered with several other cats and would thrive best with a kitty playmate (perhaps his sister?).
Desist is about one year old. He has been neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea treated, vaccinated, and has tested FIV/FeLV-. Are you searching for a buddy to add to your family? Apply for Desist (and Cease?) today!

Cease - stop right there! Back up and read this bio. That’s right folks, we’ve got a lovely brown and white tabby cat on our hands looking for a home.
Cease (and her brother, Desist) came to us several months ago as stray kittens from an outdoor colony. Although they needed some help with socialization at first, they have come a long way and are now (for the most part) regular law-abiding citizens.
Cease, like a typical girl, is a bit more sassy than her brother. She may still give a little hiss (or even a swat!) at times if you ask her to do something she doesn’t want to do. She prefers not to be picked up and carried around, although she can be petted and is a sucker for treats once she is comfortable with you. She would do best in a home with patient adopters who can start her off in a small room and give her some time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Small kiddos are likely not the best fit for her, but older, respectful children may be OK. She has been fostered with several other cats and would thrive best with a kitty playmate (perhaps her brother?).
Cease is about one year old. She has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, flea treated, vaccinated, and has tested FIV/FeLV-. Are you looking for a somewhat spicy but mostly sweet cat? Apply for Cease (and Desist?) today!

Meet Bella! Bella is a beautiful girl with a gentle heart and a sweet personality. She may be a little timid when meeting new people, but it doesn’t take long for her warm and affectionate nature to shine through. Once she feels comfortable, Bella loves attention and enjoys spending time with her favorite people. Bella enjoys playing with toys, watching the world outside from a sunny window, and spending time with her brother, Smokey. She is affectionate and loving, happily accepting pets and often seeking out a cozy lap to curl up in for some quiet companionship. With a little patience and a lot of love, Bella quickly becomes a devoted companion. Bella has spent her life in foster with feline companionship and would do best going home with her brother Smokey who she loves or to a home with a playful resident cat. Bella would likely do ok with cat savvy kiddos who give her the initial space to warm up and adjust. Bella is estimated to be 1 year old. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate cat—and perhaps a wonderful sibling pair—Bella may be the perfect addition to your family.

Meet Smokey!
Smokey is a handsome boy with a sweet, easygoing personality. He is friendly, affectionate, and loves spending time with his people. Whether he’s soaking up pets, enjoying belly rubs, or curling up nearby for company, Smokey is always happy to share his love.
This playful young cat enjoys watching the world go by from a sunny window and can often be found playing with his sister, Bella. While he still has plenty of kitten energy for fun and games, Smokey also has a mellow side and enjoys relaxing and lounging around the house.
Smokey and Bella love spending time together, whether they’re playing, exploring, or napping side by side. Smokey has spent his life in foster with a feline friend so would require going home with his sister Bella or to a home with a playful resident cat. With his gentle nature, affectionate personality, and playful spirit, Smokey would make a wonderful companion for a family looking for a loving feline friend.

Meet Zuko!
This once scorned Hissy Prince of the Fire Nation is now the sweetest little Fire Lord. His obsession with Churu tubes knows no bounds and shows slight aggression if you’re feeding it to him too slowly. Saying that Zuko loves pets is an understatement; he’ll headbutt your hand demanding more and more pets. But he deserves every single one of them. He likes to slink close to the ground and loves rolling over for both fun and means of transportation.
Zukos’ full time job is lead baker at the Biscuit Factory. He puts in overtime day in and day out. Not because he needs the money to buy more catnip, but because it’s his true passion. After his shift at the factory and the sun goes down, Zuko dons his mask and has wrestling matches with all his toys. He remains undefeated.
Zuko is estimated to be 4 years old. He is neutered, flea treated, dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. If you’re looking for a glorious orange dude to join your home, consider Zuko today!

Meet Iris! This sweet kitty came to TCR from an overcrowded shelter in NC. Iris is a versatile girl who could likely live in a variety of homes - she is a friendly sweetheart who is used to being fostered solo, but we assume could likely live with other pets with proper intros, and respectful humans of any age. She can be a bit cautious at first, but once she warms up she enjoys petting, toys, and treats.
Iris is estimated to be about eight months old. She has been spayed, dewormed, flea treated, microchipped, vaccinated, and has tested FIV/FeLV-. Please apply for this darling gal today!

Are you looking to adopt a cat, or perhaps some sort of extraterrestrial being? We assume Artemis is a feline, but perhaps he’s part alien. Looking at this lanky, wide eyed fellow, sometimes we really can’t be sure.
Artemis came to Trash Cat Rescue after being rescued from a hoarding situation in NC, where he was sadly found “covered in cockroaches and ants”. His luck didn’t get much better from there, as he was diagnosed with severe dental disease and was therefore at risk of euthanasia. We were able to pull this sweet fellow and after (many) tooth extractions, he seems to be on the road to recovery, albeit still a bit crusty and drooly.
Artemis is a talkative life force who enjoys loudly yelling a bit every once in a while. He does really enjoy pets and attention, and will fall over himself to get to the good scritches. He’s also a big fan of the YEOWW catnip banana. He can still be a bit jumpy with certain interactions - does it really surprise you to learn that this little guy can still be a bit weird?
We think that Artemis could do well in a variety of homes, as long as his people are welcoming and patient. He’d most likely enjoy living with another cat, with proper introductions. He is estimated to be about 6 years old and has been neutered, dewormed, flea treated, microchipped, vaccinated, and has tested FIV/FeLV-. He does have one cloudy eye that needs no further treatment at this time. Looking to adopt your own little alien? Apply for Artemis!
