Throwback to another painting working with values only. This painting, “The Toilet Paper Dilemma “ was created at the start of Covid when peoples’s biggest concern was if they would have enough while the raven of death was lurking over their shoulder.

Flashback to several years ago when I was working with values to understand how darks and lights impact composition. Did you know our eyes see vale before color? Where does your eye land first in this painting?

Great news!!! A second session of “Art Flow with Jody Shell” has been added for those who are looking for a creative community during the week! This quirky drawing I did a few years ago just popped up in my feed. I bought the doll on the left at a yard sale and decided to create a whole story of her with her little friends. It still makes me laugh when I look at it.!!! Ah.. the joy of art..

What a great response to the exhibit I had this past month here! The space was wonderful and the staff were friendly and so helpful!! It comes down tomorrow but a big thank you to Moss Architects for the opportunity!!!!

Crazy how this painting just suddenly appeared today in “Art Flow”class! I was painting on top of a darkly painted board someone else no longer wanted. In class we were talking about how the under painting’s color impacts the colors on top so I randomly started with one of my fav blues. I kept mindlessly painting and this is the result.. so different from my usual work but it pleases me!! BTW the dark layer really did make the other colors sing plus added areas of contrast!!!

For new followers.. thank you for supporting my artistic journey! A bit about me.. I have my studio in my home where Tank and Lola have access to me and their backyard! I love color, texture, layers, remixing memories with imagination. Art was my escape from the adult world when I was a child and a pathway still towards processing the world and keeping me curious! “Like grandma’s wallpaper”, 24”x24”, acrylic, paper, ephemera. The mood created by this piece is nostalgic calm. The many layers peel back to uncover layers underneath much like the look of stripping old vintage wallpaper to reveal another story, another family who occupied the house over the years. It is a narrative composition without saying a word!

Work in progress.. Saddened by state of the world and absurdity of human behavior I want to express it here in “ Kick em to the Curb”! I’ll keep painting here until it pleases me . . more to do but wanted to share. Art is not a luxury.
