Allow me to re-introduce myself- I’m Kim, the owner of what is now Steel City Sort 😍

I’m a professional organizer now based in Pittsburgh, and I used to run my organizing business, Tidy in the Desert, in Arizona before relocating back east with my little family.

I’ve always been someone who finds peace in order. But the real heart behind my business started during a chaotic chapter of my life—new city, new baby, mid-pandemic, zero systems at home, no family close by. One day, I tackled just a single vanity drawer… and felt something shift. That one small change created a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in months.

From that drawer, a business was born.

Now, through Steel City Sort, I help busy parents and professionals take back control of their homes with my motto’Progress over Perfection’. Whether it’s finding diapers at 2am or making dinner without the pantry meltdown, I’m here to help you create a space that works, one room at a time.

The 193875 rolls of toilet paper and paper towels sitting in a corner of a very small laundry space 😂

When you’re short on space, think VERTICAL. These felt bins from fit perfect on top of the cabinets and hold backstock of toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning products

As for the rest, it’s simple- organization isn’t about perfection or filling every piece of empty space. It’s about decluttering what you don’t need, sorting and creating categories and then containing the items that *make sense* for the space you’re in

👉🏻 A lot of professionally organized laundry rooms have pretty canisters holding detergents and cleaning powders but this one wasn’t big enough. Also, the shelves are very shallow and wouldn’t have fit the right size containers. So we left all detergents in their original packaging

*fun fact* did you know you’re supposed to leave liquid detergents and bleach in their original packaging because light can actually alter the effectiveness? Shout out to my friend Jen who clued me in on this!

Say goodbye to what no longer serves you 👇🏼

Kid toy storage and closet organization is enough to give any parent a headache. So let’s take the guessing out of it:

👉🏻 take everything out of your toy storage area. Everything.
👉🏻 sort into keep, trash and donate
👉🏻 combine like-categories into piles (all superhero’s, all small animals, etc)
👉🏻 measure your space for products like bins, cube storage units, and shelving
👉🏻 organize toys into categorized bins

Now the toys are off the floor and there’s a shelving unit in the closet that will grow with him
