I perform in the San Francisco Bay Area as a soloist, orchestral musician, and a co-founder of two ensembles: Etesian Duo and Queentet, a gay men's wind quintet. Aside from performance, I compose orchestral works, chamber works, and works for solo instrument with accompaniment. I studied composition in High School and Junior College with Rebeca Mauleon. My works range from small chamber works to large symphonic orchestrations such as my current project, Requiem Sinfonica - a requiem without words in memoriam to the victims of the Ghost Ship Fire. I studied flute with Mathew Krejci, Maria Tamburrino, and Gail Edwards. Teaching is an important aspect of my own playing and it enhances the joy of music performance. I teach from my home in Pittsburg, CA (Contra Costa County) and offer lessons to students from young child to adult. I have performed with artists such as Dawn Harms, Frederica von Stade, Melody Moore, The Dear Hunter, and many others. I have recorded with the Awesome Orchestra Collective and works by Jim Berenholtz. I currently perform with two chamber groups in the Bay Area of which I am co-founders of. The first, the Etesian Duo is a flute duo based here in Contra Costa County. We perform works for two flutes and various accompaniment. We debuted our duo at the 2016 National Flute Association Convention in San Diego. We perform alone and with other artists. The second ensemble is a gay men's wind quintet called "Queentet" based in San Francisco. We perform standard works for wind quintet, as well as works by LGBT+ composers, female composers, and works by people of color. I am also a regional salesperson for Weissman Flutes New York. I'm excited to announce that I will be working as a teaching artist with the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts this week. I'll have a small studio of flute students, but I hope to grow the studio and the program as time progresses. I'm looking forward to empowering the next generation of flutists, particularly flutists of color, to harness their excellence in a demanding field.

This month I’m presenting an exceptional work at this year’s Sacramento Flute Festival as their Composer-in-Residence. The work is titled, “Colloquial Inflections”, and it’s for two flutes (both flutes double on piccolo and alto flute) and piano.

This trio was an amazing and challenging undertaking because having to write to two incredible flutists. It was also a challenge because I didn’t simply want to write a work for two flutes with piano accompaniment. I wanted to write a work that speaks well for all three instruments.

It’s written in three movements. The first movement is mysterious and cloudy with streams of light pouring in. The instruments communicate with each other interruption each other with new ideas and extension of each other’s ideas.

The second movement is a wild dance of all the instruments. The opening even has the piano knocking in some rhythms in response to the piccolo and alto flute’s ideas. The middle section invites the listener to some Latin rhythms where the flutes still trying to talk over each other but sensually stating their own ideas.

The final movement is a dream sequence with flurries of ideas that cascade for one another.

I am overjoyed to have Brittany Trotter and Anthony Trionfo premiere this work. I also want to thank the Sacramento Flute Club for having me as their composer-in-residence this year. I’m looking forward to this event!
