- Today’s Science in the News includes Jupiter’s energy crisis… in the article it quotes how “Astronomers have created a detailed global map of the gas giant's upper atmosphere, confirming that Jupiter's powerful aurorae are responsible for delivering planet-wide heating!”
- “There has been a very long-standing puzzle in the thin atmosphere at the top of every Giant Planet within our solar system. With every Jupiter space mission, along with ground-based observations, over the past 50 years, we have consistently measured the equatorial temperatures as being much too hot”
- This energy crises has puzzled scientist for decades, and now it seems they have found the answer they have been looking for!

Hello everyone & happy Monday! A couple of reminders:
- If you haven’t already please submit your Covid-19 vaccination documents on your Rutgers Portal! View our last post for a full description on how to do this!! The deadline was yesterday!!!
- Second reminder keep a look out for future postings about the new hours & rules as the Math & Science Learning Center expects to reopen for the fall semester!! 😎
- Now, here’s some for you…
- “Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want”
- This is a good quote to consider on a Monday because no one is looking forward to work, school, or other obligations that come with the beginning of a Monday morning, but a new start to a new week means new beginnings and opportunities that await you!
- Happy Monday everyone 😌
STUDENTS + FACULTY: If you have not seen the recently sent email here is what it states
- “If you have not already done so, please upload your completed immunization documents as soon as possible to https://rutgers.medicatconnect.com. Once you have uploaded your COVID-19 vaccine documentation, your record will be reviewed, and you will be notified if any further action is needed. You can check the status of your vaccination uploads by logging into the immunization portal; detailed guidance on reviewing your status can be found at this FAQ on the vaccine webpage. Bear in mind that Rutgers staff is working hard to review an unprecedented number of vaccination records as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience while we work through the uploads.”
- If you do not upload these documents at the mandatory deadline: “Failure to comply with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate will prevent you from continuing your academic work at Rutgers in fall 2021. Students not compliant with the vaccine mandate will have their NetID access blocked. This means they will NOT be able to access any Rutgers application that requires a login such as my.rutgers.edu, Canvas, email, WebReg, and housing information. Students with on-campus housing assignments will not receive keys to their residence halls or apartments.”
- DEADLINE: Sunday, August 1st, 2021! 🚨

Happy Thursday everyone and today we have another science in the news! 🗞
- This science in the news post was found on sciencedaily.com with BATS being the topic of interest 🦇!!
- These Egyptian Fruit Bats have been studied by neuroscientists at Berkeley where they actually found clues to mammalian navigation by taking a closer look at there brains!!
- Through this process they were able to uncover “that neural activity in the bats' hippocampuses more strongly represented future locations than current locations”
- One of the most interesting aspects of this study is that “because the hippocampus is also a locus of many diseases, such as Alzheimer's, where a person's sense of location and memory is often disrupted, uncovering these basic neural computations could also give scientists a better understanding of disease-related impairment and help them devise more effective treatments”
- Surely an interesting read! & here is the link ➡️ https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/07/210708143856.htm
- Have a great day everyone!! 🦇😀
Some here’s a quote to take with you that can be reflected on during the week: “Life offers you so many doors, it is up to you which to open & which to close” - Everyday Power

Happy Monday everyone! Today’s science in the news features a short and interesting read about our aquatic life!
- In this article “Tiny crystals give a plain fish twinkling, colorful dots under light”
- Susan Milius author of this article written on the sciencenews.org describes that “puzzling fish twinkles from wide-banded hardyhead silversides might lead to ultra-tiny sensors”
- With this light shining onto the water, it actually presents a beautiful display of colors being: blue, yellow, blue, yellow!
- it’s mentioned in the article that, “For fish that live in bright light and near the surface, as do silversides, the reflectivity probably serves as a type of camouflage or distraction from predators lurking or striking from below”
- Check out this article at the link right here for more in depth information! https://www.sciencenews.org/article/hardyhead-silverside-fish-crystals-colorful-dots
- Have a great Monday everyone!’

- for those who are able to go back in person to there work place, things can be just as stressful and might be feeling hard to adjust to!
- today’s post is driven to reach you all and to provide tips if you ever feel that your mental health state isn’t in the best place, which is completely okay/normal
- If you are overwhelmed here’s a couple of things you can do:
1. Relax your shoulders 2. Three breaths 3. Take a break 4. Go for a walk (or stand up from your chair and stretch, move your body around to get blood flowing) 5. Adjust schedule if possible 6. Ask for help, if there’s something work related that you are stuck on, reaching out to a co-worker can be the best way to get yourself back on track 7. Remember you can handle this! 🤓
Today’s includes a short read on an article that can provide you with tips during this summer-time
- This article includes 7 tricks to keeping cool this summer without AC!!
- The first tip includes - ceiling fans & how they could potentially be your best friend this summer without AC ... but be sure that the fan is set to a counter-clockwise direction; this allows them to draw cooler air up from the floor!!
- Another tip for keeping cool with no AC would be to try and do your cooking outdoors rather than in the household. For example, if you own an outdoor grill this is a perfect way to keep the heat out from your house. Cooking dinner indoors in the summer time without an air conditioner allows for the heat from the oven to expand through the indoors!
- This article provides a couple more tips/life hacks that could surely be helpful to beat this summer time heat! Be sure to check it out right here: https://www.bobvila.com/slideshow/7-tricks-for-keeping-cool-without-ac-48955
