A reminder that family sessions do not require perfectly behaved children.

Honestly, I usually welcome a little chaos.

When kids are given room to be themselves, sessions naturally become more playful, curious, emotional, and real. Once the pressure to “perform” or smile perfectly disappears, we’re able to create images that actually feel like your family in this season of life.

And sometimes kids are tired, shy, overwhelmed, or simply not in the mood that day, and that’s okay too.

The goal is never perfection. It’s preserving this season honestly.

Some of my favorite images have come from the moments parents worried weren’t going well at all.

Sometimes when we let go a little, the result ends up being even more magical than we expected.

Every year, I tell myself I won’t miss it.
And every year the blossoms come and go faster than I’m ready for.

This spring feels different. Like it arrived all at once after the longest winter.The kind where you forget how much you needed the extra hours of daylight, some color after endless brown and gray, and fresh air coming through open windows.

This morning I drove through Chester County for a newborn session, and everywhere I looked, the trees had burst into bloom. After weeks of rescheduling due to endless winter sickness, it felt like a sign that we’ve finally turned a corner.

That’s the magic of this season—
it’s not just the blooms, or the earth coming to life again. It’s the way you reawaken, the way you start to feel like yourself again.

And it doesn’t last long.

These trees are only here for a couple of weeks—and we’re in that window right now.

The golden light, the cozy sweaters, the crunch of leaves underfoot… fall is one of my very favorite times to photograph families.

Every year I’m reminded how fleeting this season is. Not just the season outdoors, but the season of life we’re in with our children. They change so quickly, and sometimes it feels like if we don’t pause to document it, we’ll blink and the moment will be gone. Do you also feel like each year passes faster than the last?

That’s why I love photographing families and maternity sessions in the fall. Of course the colors and light are beautiful, yes, but it’s really about the way this time of year invites us to slow down, gather close, and soak it all in before winter arrives. My sessions are never about stiff posing or perfect smiles, they’re about capturing connection, laughter, curiosity, and those little in-between gestures that say this is us, right now.

Proof of life post. If you’re wondering where I’ve been, here’s a peek at the current chaos of the past month:

• Getting our house ready to rent—which apparently means painting, fixing, and replacing everything we’ve ignored for years.

• Sorting through 17 years of accumulated stuff in preparation for our July move, while also trying to pack around all the things the kids still need daily

• Hunting for approximately one million tiny toy pieces (why are there always so many pieces??)

• Packing for our annual family trip to the shore and two out-of-town weddings—because obviously everything happens all at once

• Rescheduling lots of sessions thanks to weeks of nonstop rain

• Most importantly, still photographing all the adorable babies and families

Since school let out a few weeks ago, the chaos has definitely kicked up a notch. I promise I’m still here—just trying to survive this very full (and very messy) season of life.

I always say I’ll post more, but at least I’m consistently inconsistent, right? ;)

That Friday feeling! And only two more weeks of school until summer break begins.

May is flying by. I recently heard the term “May Mayhem,” and it perfectly sums up just how crazy this month is between work, holidays, birthdays, field trips and the school year wrapping up.

I’m currently looking forward to a simpler schedule when the kids are both home in June. But we’ll see if I change my ins when we enter into summer mode 😉.

This weather lately… pure magic.
Spring is finally showing off, and it just feels too good not to celebrate it.

I’m adding a few mini session spots at Valley Forge Park this Monday, April 28, between 6–7:30 PM — right at sunset, when everything turns golden and glowy.
