🐾 Access to Care
As many as 50 million US pets don’t receive necessary veterinary care. Difficulties in obtaining care for our pets can range from financial hardship to transportation/location difficulties, so our goal is to help outfit our partners with grants that can help them take care of the pets in their community. One of the best ways to prepare your pet for a disaster is by having your pet's emergency kit packed and ready to go.

Your kit should include:

- Sturdy leashes, harnesses and/or carriers
- Food, drinking water and bowls
- Medications and copies of medical records
- Current photos of you with your pet(s)
- A first aid kit
- Feeding schedules, medical conditions, behavior notes and your veterinarian’s contact information
- Pet blankets, beds and toys, if easily transportable

Josephine’s journey didn’t end when she found a home, it was just the beginning. 🏡

After struggling with recurring health issues, her owner turned to our partner, Pets In Need of Greater Cincinnati. Their team provided ongoing veterinary care, guidance, and support, and when Josephine needed surgery, they were there every step of the way to help her heal safely.

Her owner shared how supported she felt throughout the process, knowing she had a team she could trust to care for Josephine.

Rex, formerly known as Silverado, found his family at a PetSmart adoption event in Texas through our partner Humane Society of North Texas! From the moment he snuggled into his adopter’s neck, it was clear he had found his home. 🏡

When Rex met his new sibling Stella at home, she was a little unsure how to feel about her new brother. With time and patience, Rex won Stella over, and now the two are inseparable.

Today, Rex is a 65-pound bundle of joy, bringing out the very best in Stella and filling their home with love, laughter, and plenty of cuddles. 🥳

When Dutchess’ owner noticed something wasn’t right, he brought her to Gateway Pet Guardians for help. She had stopped eating, and her abdomen was severely swollen.

After an exam, their team diagnosed her with pyometra, a life-threatening infection that required emergency surgery. The team got to work quickly and discovered the infected area weighed more than 7 pounds.

Dutchess received the care she needed and is now recovering at home, reunited with her family.
