I’m so grateful to be an American, even with all the disagreement about what that means. The Declaration names ideals that we sometimes embody and other times contradict. But if perfection is impossible, maybe the pursuit is the point.

I’m midway through a trilogy of music projects born out of conversations between my citizenship and my faith. History reminds me how wild it is to have the freedom to do such a thing. Amazing. Happy 250 to you and yours!

The Land of Canaan turns 5 today.

This album narrates a faith transition, a wedding of ancient symbols with fresh meaning, filling the new wineskins with new wine. and I had a ball making it, alongside a village of creators.

Over the last 5 years I’ve received so many kind messages about how the project became a soundtrack for some of your own faith journeys. What more could an artist ask for?

Money.

Kidding, but here’s a small miracle: half the original batch of vinyl went missing when the printing company declared bankruptcy, only to resurface this year after a generous Canadian found them in a storage bin and mailed them back to me. So Canaan is on vinyl again on my website if you want one, cheaper than ever, given I’d already given up on them.

Which is fitting. The album’s mantra was “there is no arriving…” to which I’d now add, “but don’t give up! Surprises ahead.” Thanks for inviting these songs into your life. The Land of Canaan needs you, more than you know.
