This is our field harvested Opuntia basilaris, known as the beavertail cactus or beavertail pricklypear. This cactus produces edible buds which can be dried and stored for the long term and the large seeds can be ground into a powder to create a nutritious porridge. Or planted to make more Opuntia basilaris!

Opuntia ficus indica (Burbank). Originally created by the botanist Luther Burbank in Santa Rosa, these cacti create delicious pale yellow fruit that taste somewhat like Apricots. Seeds freshly harvested from the field.

These scary looking dried seed pods are from our homegrown Echinocereus coccineus (Mexican claret cup). This cactus produces large edible fruits and beautiful red/orange flowers which provide an abundance of sugar for humming birds and bees.
