Medical pledges needed šŸ’•āœØ

Churro was pulled from the euthanasia list for behavior… and from the moment we met him, he proved everyone wrong.

This sweet, playful boy is an absolute love bug. He greets everyone with a wagging tail, wants to play nonstop, and leans in for affection like he’s been waiting his whole life for it. He’s the kind of dog that makes you wonder how he was ever misunderstood in the first place.

But Churro surprised us in another way, too.

After coming into our care, he tested positive for heart worm, something that had gone undiagnosed. Tomorrow, he starts his treatment journey with bloodwork and thoracic radiographs, followed by medications to prepare him for a series of injections over the next 3 months to eliminate the heartworms.

It’s not the easy road. It’s a long one. But Churro doesn’t know what’s ahead. He just knows he’s safe now, and he’s loved.

And we know this: he’s going to get through it.

We’re committed to giving him every chance at the healthy, happy life he deserves. If you’d like to make a donation towards Churro’s care, here are the ways to help:

Make a donation direct to our vet by calling Sun City west animal hospital at 623-584-8030

He made it off the list. Now we make sure he gets the life that comes after. 🧔

Honey update šŸ’›

Her skin is in really rough shape and we’re concerned it could be Cushing’s disease or a thyroid issue. She arrived dirty and severely matted, but despite everything, she is incredibly sweet and trusting. With the help of Heather Wilson Safsten and her sister, we gave her a much-needed bath and carefully removed the painful mats from her body and tail. Her tail was so impacted it had to be shaved down to the skin.

She enjoyed a big bowl of food, fresh blankets, and a cozy bed to finally relax.

Tomorrow she’ll see Dr. Johnson at Sun City West Animal Hospital for bloodwork so we can better understand what’s going on and start treating her medical needs. She will also need a dental, as her teeth are in very poor condition.

Huge thank you to the Good Samaritan who found her and reached out for help. Honey has the gentlest spirit, and we’re so grateful to give her the care and fresh start she deserves.

Donations for Honey’s medical needs can be made directly to our vets office by calling 623-584-8030 and adding to the Good Omen dog rescue account, or at any of the links below:

šŸ’”SOSšŸ’” We are intaking this sweet little senior girl today, found as a stray with some obvious medical issues going on, but we aren’t sure quite what yet. Our minds immediately go to cushings disease, cancer or a thyroid disorder. But whatever is going on it’s clear she’s been suffering for a long time and we need to help her ASAP!

We will be posting more as we get to know her and she sees Dr Johnson on Monday, but please if you can consider donating to her care it would be greatly appreciated!

Foster needed!!! this little one is *technically* adoptable at the shelter, although we personally disagree with that decision.

He’s on the euthanasia list for 4/23 for a femoral hip injury and previous pelvic fracture. It’s an old injury, and may not need surgery- but if he does need FHO surgery it is around 2k for rescues, 3-4k for the average person. If someone adopts him thinking he doesn’t need surgery but he does this can be detrimental to both the adopter and Beetle. We’d love to take him into GODR and monitor him, and of course if he needs to have surgery we will cover all medical expenses. If you can foster please apply at goodomendogrescue.org/foster

Foster must be able to take to vet visits at Sun City West Animal Hospital and keep on bed rest and do physical therapy if surgery is needed.

Would sit @ handlers feet, quietly looking around surroundings. Allowed petting while looking around. Offered treats in hand, would take treats gently. Handler stood up & walked around then sat on bench. Dog would slowly come towards handler with soft tail wags then sat down near handlers feet, looking around quietly. Handler picked up leash, dog would not walk on leash with verbal coaxing. Slowly picked up dog & carried back to kennel. Placed dog back in kennel then removed leash by hand. Offered more treats then closed kennel door. Interested parties should be counseled on providing this dog with proper decompression time in a new home. Allowing time to adjust is important for their comfort and well-being. Adopters should be counseled on proper dog-to-dog introductions, which should only occur after the dog has fully decompressed. Families should be counseled on safe containment and supervision practices.

Meet Evie šŸ’”

When we saw her placed on the euthanasia list yesterday, we knew we had to step in for this tiny senior girl. At 10 years old and just 6 pounds, Evie has clearly been through far too much. She’s painfully underweight, just skin and bones and has been struggling to eat due to severe dental pain.

This fragile little lady was terrified at county, facing the unthinkable. She has significant dental disease, several mammary masses, and has limited vision.

Today begins her journey to healing. She’s settling in with her foster mom Heather Wilson Safsten where she’ll get a gentle bath, soft food for her sore mouth, and antibiotics to help get her started on her healing journey. Next we’ll get her in to to start tackling her medical needs.

For now, she’ll be wrapped in love, comfort, and safety. No more fear, sweet girl, you’re finally where you belong.

šŸ’• please consider donating to Evie’s medical needs

🐾 Meet Marco 🐾

Marco is officially out of the shelter and settling into his foster home, and we’re so happy to share… he’s doing really well!

The same little guy who was struggling in the shelter is already showing us who he truly is. He’s been calm, learning his new environment, and incredibly affectionate with his foster.
This is exactly why we step in for dogs like Marco. What looked like ā€œreactivityā€ in the shelter was really just stress and anxiety. Give him a quiet space and a little time, and he softens quickly.

We’re still getting to know him, but so far he’s proving to be a sweet, gentle, and loving little dog who just needed a chance.

Huge thank you to his foster mom Mary Orosz, for stepping up and giving him that safe place to land. We couldn’t do this without you.

Stay tuned for more updates on Marco as he continues to decompress and show us more of his personality ā¤ļø

Welcome, Puppy! 🐾

This little guy was E-listed for shutting down while at the shelter. He was terrified, overwhelmed, and unsure of the world around him.

After only a few hours in his foster home, Puppy is already showing us who he really is: a playful, happy, sweet boy who just needed to feel safe again. The fear he was showing? That wasn’t who he is, it was what he was going through.

At just under 4 years old and 18 lbs, this adorable guy has been through a lot. Found as part of a trio, he watched one of his friends make it out while he waited… and waited… until his time was almost up. Thankfully, he doesn’t have to wonder anymore and he’s relaxing in his new foster (hopefully forever) home tonight šŸ’•

FOSTER NEEDED – MEET WANDA šŸ’—

Wanda is… a little bit of a mess.
But she’s the happiest little mess you’ll ever meet.

A little chubby, cloudy eyes, some skin irritation, and teeth that need help. She pants quite a bit and may have something medical going on, so she’ll need a foster who can keep an eye on her while we get her checked out.

Despite it all, she’s sweet, gentle, rides great in the car, and just happy to be here.

She needs a calm, safe place to land while we handle her care.

We cover medical, you provide the love.

IMMEDIATE Foster Needed for Marco!! Deadline TODAY!

https://apps.pets.maricopa.gov/priority/Details/OTI5-MTI4-MTRB

Marco doesn’t need a perfect home, he just needs the right one.

Right now, he’s struggling in the shelter environment. It’s loud, overwhelming, and not where a sensitive little dog like him can truly settle. Because of that, he can come across unsure in the kennel at times, but we’ve also seen him completely calm and non-reactive, just quietly taking everything in.

Marco isn’t a difficult dog, he’s a stressed one.
Once he’s out of the kennel, he needs proper decompression time. With patience he allows handling, and starts to relax.

In a home he’s been described as friendly, cuddly, and easy to be around. He just needs a chance to feel safe again.

We are looking for a calm, low traffic home (not a lot of chaos or constant activity)
Someone patient who understands that shy dogs need a little time to open up
A foster who’s comfortable going slow at first and letting him come to you
Older kids or adult only home would be ideal
A calm, well-balanced dog could be a great influence, but not required

These are often the dogs that surprise you the most. Once they feel safe, they turn into incredibly loyal, loving companions.
We know Marco is in there. We just need someone willing to help him show it.

If you can foster Marco, even short-term, please reach out. We’ll support you every step of the way!!
