Hound of the Month: Ladybug

Ladybug is itching for your help. Literally.

Look at Ladybug’s adorable face! I’m not going to show you what she looks like when she rolls over because her skin is flaming red due to allergies – especially her armpits and private area.

This sweet 2-year-old basset hound was recently relinquished to the Rescue when her human could no longer afford the ongoing care. Ladybug has extensive allergy problems. When she’s not wearing a protective cone and body suit, she will scratch and chew on herself until her skin is raw.

One of our regular vets was able to give her some relief from her itchiness with a steroid shot, antibiotics, and Apoquel (expensive allergy medication), but Ladybug will need testing from a veterinary dermatologist to identify what she’s allergic to. She may also need to have specialized food while she’s going through this allergy testing.

Needless to say, the costs associated with Ladybug’s care are already adding up. We are lucky that we can provide this higher level of care for our hounds. Many rescues are only able to provide basic vaccines and spay/neuter, and the adoptive family is left to pick up the tab for any additional care the dog needs. This is only possible because of the generosity of donors like you.

Can you help offset the cost of Ladybug’s allergy testing and related care? As adorable as she is in her flower cone, we want this precious little girl to be itch-free as soon as possible.

FOUND HOUND IN THE GOODYEAR AREA, CROSS STREETS COTTON LANE/LOWER BUCKEYE ON SUPERIOR AVE. FINDER IS TAKING HIM TO THE AZ HUMANE SOCIETY. IF HE IS YOUR DOG CONTACT THEM DIRECTLY.

This little one was found in the Holbrook area last night on County Road 7156. The maps show the area and the red dot is approximate location where she was found. The finders are from out of state and were unable to hold her for the 72 hours required. For now, she is in a temporary foster home in the East Valley. Please contact the rescue at intakeorg if you know her or her people. She has been scanned for a microchip and there is none present. Proof of ownership will be required.

This little one was found yesterday at Baseline and S 75th Ave. Finder can not hold and will be taking the dog to the Maricopa County Shelter today. If the dog is yours please contact Maricopa County directly.

We had a fun time at the Copa Paws and Claws event today!

Five bassets helped us promote the breed and the Rescue, including Chika and Honetbun who are available for adoption. Everyone loved petting the hounds and a few expressed interest in fostering or adopting!
