Our Courtyard House will be coming out in a new AZ publication soon! Here is a small taste of that project.

The original farmhouse was re-built and the family refers to it as the historic home. The historic home was expanded with a modern addition. The original barn had been removed decades ago prompting the family to include a new barn with modern amenities as part of the project design. These 3 portions of the project; historic home, modern expansion and new barn, create a large, private, courtyard. The courtyard includes a raised, 4 sided negative edge pool, bocce court area, patios and full outdoor kitchen beneath a cantilevered trellis. Landscape meanders around and through the courtyard and all three sides of the courtyard have large folding door systems to open the home up to the outdoor space.

Sneak peak at a new project in the early design stages.  The first image shows an initial concept drawing followed by a more developed computer plan and then a preliminary 3d image.  Working from hand to 3D is a great way to see a project take form.

For now all you can see is the entry but there will be more to come!

This past weekend we were lucky enough to tour one of the first homes designed by Phoenix architect, Ned Sawyer, The Corbus House, in Scottsdale, AZ. The home is over 30 years old and the original owners are still  enjoying the beautifully conceived, modernist home tucked within a boulder filled, natural desert site. Much thanks to the homeowners, Ned Sawyer and Lawrence Lake Interiors, for setting this up.

New project looking to break ground soon!   The ‘Roost’ house is situated on an extremely sloped lot with unbelievable red rock views.  This one will be a challenge to build but will definitely be worth the effort!

Working with a Homeowners Association (HOA) on the design and construction of your new home can sometimes lead to surprises.  Today we list some of the more common items that an HOA may require.  In a later post we will look into construction items that may arise when working with an HOA.

Aerial view of the Veil House under construction.  This home is built of ICF block which is a great material for strength, insulation and sound.  This particular block was manufactured by .  It is a little different than most ICF as its main structure is a composite of wood and cement instead of EPS. 







 

Our previous post highlighted an entry to a home with a wood ceiling.  Today we are showing that same wood ceiling continuing into the main living area and the kitchen.  This feature not only looks great but creates space above for the routing of all of the HVAC ducts and additional systems that must run throughout the house.

An Entry with a View!

At our Casa Puente project our client’s favorite color adorns the front entry door and opens into a glass foyer with a view to the mountains beyond.  A unique aspect to this entry is it accommodates every type of person entering the home.  Visitors coming through the main entry, the homeowners coming home through the garage and guest staying in the casita all enter into the home by passing through different doorways that all are organized around this glass bridge foyer.

Checked up on the Hillside residence today and was lucky enough to see the freshly installed landscape at the front courtyard.  The modern bay window is balanced by the steel scupper, rain chain and boulder.   Wonderful install by and as always great design by .
