What inspires us. The most important thing I learned about graphic design was from this man during a 4 hour walk around Basel, Switzerland. What was his advice for all of us wide eyed soon to be finished and out in the real world design students. "You can't be a great designer unless you open up your eyes and look at the world around you. Look at the architecture, fashion, colors, it all affects what we do." It is good advice that I have followed throughout my career. I consider myself very lucky to have met him and learned from him, even if only for a moment.

I was at my very first professional job when 9/11 happened. I was the first person to my office and after hearing what was happening on the radio in my car on the way to work, I sprinted into our office and found the only tv we had, it was a tiny little 10 inch black and white and I remembered sitting glued to it in horror as I watched the second plane hit the towers. To all of you that are in public service and run to the emergency as everyone else is running away, I salute you and thank you for your service.
